Ok, I've been shooting my .280 ackley since september and being at college and not having any reloading equiptment here I haven't been able to do a lot of load development.
My rifle is a REM 700 action, Rock Creek M24 fluted barrel, tuned trigger, seekins base/rings with a loaner Falcon 4-16 I'm using until my PST gets here.
Here's the situation... BTW all brass is fully prepped each time.
Fireforming load: Using remington brass loaded with 52 grains of RL22, CCI Magnum primers, and 162 Amax's seated just to the lands. This was an AWESOME load. I was printing .2 MOA three shot groups at 100 yds repeatedly including a best .16 MOA group including a cold bore shot.
I then trimmed all my cases 5 thousands short of the max length according to the Nosler manual, loaded up 57 grains of IMR 4831, CCI Magnum Primers, flash holes chamfered, and have gotten pretty repeatable .5-.6 MOA groups. I've loaded bullets jumped 15 thousands, 10 thousands, 5 thousands, and just to the lands and have yet to find a load that shoots as good as my fireforming loads.
I'm thinking of swapping powders to the Hodgen 4831SC or maybe back to the RL22 but I've heard of pretty extreme velocity changes due to shooting in variable temps.
Any advice for this shooter? Thanks
