Where are we at in OTM vs Poly Tip?

Provided we are not talking about terminal ballistics I think that the basic idea is that with a plastic tip bullet you can produce a sharp point and maximize BC. I believe the length of the bullets should be more consistent with the tip. While I think, but i'm not sure, its likely easier to produce a tipped bullet then it is a proper BTHP match bullet and as such the manufacturing costs are slightly less. There were some problems years ago with some of the Hornady AMAX bullets; they were coming apart in flight and this turned many a shooter away from them for competition. As I understand things, the Mfg process has improved to the point where we don't hear much about this issue.

Interesting. Wasn't the original idea of the OTM was that the pocket of air caught in the tip acted like a more-slippery surface than a pointed tip, or am I just lost in the sauce?
