Other than being in AZ, what is going on with him?
I consider him a friend, maybe not the best friend I have had on here but none the less a friend.

I know he has some health problems, but he has inputed a lot of neat threads into the forum over many years but haven't seen him lately.

Anybody know what is going on with him? FM

I probably didn't spell that right but I think most of the older members know who I speak of.

I found a picture...

He liked a post of mine today so he is out there.

Maybe he just doesnt like you. You know that CAV/USMC rivalry......you certainly brought the bacon and eggs at Khe Sanh though.

I don't want to get a bunch of queer shit going on with all of the add on shit. I did not like that at all.
All I wanted to know was is if he was OK and doing well.???

Some of us are getting OLDER and we have to look out for our Partners In Crime.

I could give a buano fuck as to him being a Marine and me being Army. We were both drafted.

Both of us were DRAFTED, did sign on the dotted line, not wanting to sign on the dotted line, but we did. and we both went and did our best and took the Oath we swore to seriously and to heart.

Many of you Vets on here don't understand the Draft because it didn't effect or affect you and you are young compared to US on your draft number instead of RA.

Most Vets on here are volunteers and signed the line whereas there were more than a few of us that were not going to volunteer for anything, but we did go when called and did our best.

Greg did gen sets and did them well. I was a Grunt and I did that to the best of my abilities, and I lived, but I seriously doubt that had I had the option to bow out and not participate, I would have done that. I did not want to go, but I did, and did the best I could do at the time.

Who in the fuck wanted to hump a heavy ruck, ammo, and water? There were a few RA Officer types but they quickly fell out, leaving us to our own way of thinking. and not all of them but many flew out on the Log bird.

If we still had the draft, there would be far fewer ANTIFA...just sayin'.

The elimination of the draft was with malice.

Erosion of E pluribus Unum and allowing the mil industrial complex to play war because they had " willing participants" rather than your cross section of society. If we had a draft Moms of America would never have permitted a twenty year war. Rules of Engagement would be "Close with and Destroy".

@Foul Mike the picture is Greg Louganis try as I might I can't help when I see Greg L's name I think of diving Greg L due the similarity......its the Pit.

My mention of your Cav unit was one of respect. At Khe Sanh 1st Cav broke through to relieve the siege of the Marine fire base. Perhaps you were there?

Glad you are checking in on Greg. I hope he is doing well and all are happy and healthy in his household. He is a wealth of information. I've been meaning to pick his brain on treating a M1 Garand stock. I seem to remember him posting about polishing and caring for some color guard M1s for the VFW.

I will tell it as it was and don't look back. I may be the one watching your 6 if you are lucky.
I would be happy to have you running overwatch Foul Mike.

You just hafta tell stories and make me laugh after.
hopefully we still have access to cold beer.

Im ready to give a go on paper at 600 again, soon as my nuts and pecker show back up from this cold snap. They tried today, but tomorrow above 35 here should do it!
Will give you a call

Yeah sure bud! Remember all the Leftists out there who said they were gonna all move to Canada if Trump was elected and they never did? If the draft came back (which it won't) do you honestly think they would run to Canada? Hell no because for the time being, Leftists are a protected species and will face no jail time for refusing to serve.

That wasn't my point.

Military service changes you forever. I want them changed. I want them to actually have skin in the game. As it is, they have all the time on their hands to act like a bunch of goddamned chimps.

If they decide to show their ass while in the military, then the UCMJ isn't nearly as lenient as the civilian court system.

Sorry to say that today's military won't change them. It will bend to allow their individualism at the expense of the hard chargers who will pick up the slack rather than missing a goal.

95 percent of 17-18 yr old kids are not close in comparison to the kids when foul mike got drafted! Most would run and fucking cower! But with the fuckers that are running this country now, I wouldn’t fight for those no good peice of shits!

Rather than worrying about the draft ever coming back how about proposing that ALL politicians in government be REQUIRED so serve in the military. The politicians in suits who send our young soldiers in uniforms to war should have at least experienced it for themselves first hand.

John McLame never saw a conflict he didn't want to get involved in. There's several more examples but he's a notable pos.

@Maser because there are these people known affectionately as REMF who stay stateside and push paper.

I could see if it demanded 4 yrs enlisted infantry.
i hate to see them get to be officers. The fact that that want to be a politician already means they are useless. Letting them be an officer and useless makes no logistical sense.

I can at least entertain the idea. At least 4 yrs. enlisted. Active duty. At least one trip to somewhere thats dangerous and sucks balls.

Imma need a fresh bottle of bourbon and a little time to get this fully planned out.

And while we are redoing some rules, how about making a way for those with current medical exclusions to serve in some form

The thought of AOC and Pelosi serving could be pretty cool. Imagine the death ray caused by the combination of both sets of their crazy eyes! Fuck a Raufoss round when you got the dreaded Mark I AOC-Pelosi Stare DEW! :devilish:

Holy Farg! I Just noticed this topic.

Yes, my health and my Bride's have been a bit strained, but nothing really serious; just a lot of traveling to appointments. We continue to thrive, just in a lower gear.

I jumped to the bottom of all this posting to respond in general immediately, and reassure those who may want some that we're not in any straits.

The fact is, that with the Biden Events looming, I'm projecting a slimmer silhouette on the net. I'm really bummed out about how the election got hacked and we're all in the bullseye these days for the egregious offense of exercising our Constitutional rights.

Not my President. Beyond that, I'm staying mellow.

FYI, I put USMC as my first choice when I registered for the draft and requested early conscription. I wanted it over with ASAP. Probably saved my life, I got rotated home a week before Tet. I had been in Khe Sanh briefly to help with come genset maint, and got out just before the Big Siege kicked in for real. In and out hopping off and on rolling C-130's. Technically, as an 1141 (Engr Electrician-technically not a 'Combat MOS), I would be properly referred to as a REMF. But a transfer from 11 Engr into 1st Tracs halfway through my tour ended me up as an AmGrunt, so the crystal ball is cloudy on all that. Amgrunts are an odd mix that doesn't rightly fit into any customary slot. For example, I'm not authorized to wear the Combat Action Ribbon, yet participated several times each month from 6/67 to 11/67 in direct combat and night recon.

I just donated two of my unused rifles (one of them my in cosmoline, never fired M-59/66A1, the other my Savage 10FCM 7.62x39; so I no longer have that chambering to be involved with...) for a gun raffle to benefit VFW and Legion Riders projects. In general, I'll be doing some FTF transfers (legal in AZ) and culling the herd down to a manageable, and satisfying minimum. Uncle Sugar can kiss my ass about details, I am not legally obliged to divulge any of that in my state. I'll be disassembling several AR's down to nuts and bolts, so if Uncle wants my guns, He'll be getting a couple or three stripped lowers. Period. The rest will be miscellaneous parts, which do not constitute firearms. If a ransom applies to AR's I may consider paying it for a couple or three. I flatly refuse to scoff any laws, but interpretation can be a very interesting exercise. I suspect there will be plenty of that going on out here in the bush. Biden will find few friends in these surroundings.

In the meantime, turning down the wick on my shooting activities during a monumental ammo shortage has some relevance.

Hail Rush; may his shadow loom over us perpetually.

Meanwhile, we've also been taking time for some recreational travel. Got back Saturday from 8 days of Disney Vacation Club at the Old Key West Resort on the Dizzy World property. Also include two trips to LV for some business (buying a timeshare) over the past several months. The timeshare includes Disney, so some significant savings accompanied the combining of the two transactions. Southwest Air has been getting a lot of business from us lately.

Thank you for any concern, and kindnesses above, I will be returning to read this from the beginning once I finish typing this.

Honestly, I'm shocked (and honored) that any would actually take note of my absence. I am humbled.

Thank you all,

Greg and Celia

PS read and approved; and thank you folks.

Don't worry, you and all the others who can't understand how the draft is truly evil and negates the entire idea of individual rights and having control over your own body, will get your precious draft soon enough.

Just about every communists / socialist / facist regime has found it very useful to institute a mandatory draft to complete indoctrination and compliance training of the young and ensure they can rip the children away from any dissidents and either turn them into party loyalists or arrange for them to meet an unfortunate end.

Just don't let me hear anyone whining when their children or grandchildren are conscripted into the People's Army, if they were the ones that waxed lyrical about how great an idea such enslavement was.

Alive and well, so far; and slightly miffed that it's like pulling teeth to get any response about Covd Vaccine availability around here. It seems to vary from county to county, and the ones with the big cities, (Tucson/Phoenix) seem to get the preference. No politics here, nothing to see, move along.

Greg

I got the first stage of the Vaccine, Moderna, as did my Old Lady. Bad reactions for both of us.

I seriously doubt that either of us will go back for a second repitition of that Motherfucker. YMMV

...Catching up on all this, we've both gotten our Vaccines, But it looks live I'll/we'll be stopping at two.

I've spent a bunch of time in the hospital this year, five visits in all (the EMT drivers know my name and address by now). I have never been put in a room with a working TV, but with my Kindle Oasis, that doesn't matter. I read a TON these days. But days on end in a hospital can get real old real quick. Only once has my life actually been in any danger, and most of that stuff stopped around New Years. Only other thing, they replaced my ICD two weeks ago, I'm on my third. FWIW, we're both on the mend, but it's a damned slow process.

Celia's been pretty much OK, she just has to use a Walker/Roller, and we both use electric scooters when we travel to where we need to stay away overnight. She owns hers, and we rent one in those rare occasions when I need one; like the upcoming w/e at Comic Fest In Phoenix. I'm still on O2, I bought my own Inogen, and t's very good, but somewhat heavy.

The last few outings to the range have finally convinced me that I just don't have the energy for rifle shooting. No complaints, I've had a bunch of it in my time. Trying to rap my head against the stone wall doesn't work, so I'm about done, gun-wise. Family gets my guns handed down, and I'm trying to get a model aircraft building bench up and running out in the shop either this week or next. Right alongside, the loading bench is still up and running, and as time permits, I'll be loading up about 1K 44Mag, and 1K 308 for my Grandson to shoot.

In Hacienda Langelius, Celia and I often have three-cat-nights. we wake up and there's five of us in our bed. Big Beautiful Babe cats. I am as happy as I've ever been, Celia, too. I turned 76 yesterday; nice peaceful day with the Grand Kiddos, while we watched Hockey Playoffs. I hardly drink at all, keeping it to two cocktails a sitting; and maybe 2 or 3 sittings per wk. The nephrologist says my kidneys are a miracle; in the past two years, they have shown NO decrease in effectiveness. He tells me that at my age, that's a flat-out miracle.

I'll be here, just not so active, so y'all hang in there, and so will I.

More later, I'm sure.

Greg

PS, as local VFW Post 9977 Adjutant, I really don't have any significant biases against any of the services. I did the rifle maintenance, short course, for the 8 Garands this past week, and plan a more conscientious job the following week. They need more linseed oil and some bluing needs touching up.

Life could be a lot worse...

The only way I'm leaving SH is to occupy my piece of earth. Shooting is another issue. I'm not really up for it anymore.

My future days will be mostly indoors (in the proper Heat and A/C), building my model aircraft, and on selected nice days when I can get out and fly 'em a bit. Much like shooting, the implement doesn't like winds, and the human can't handle extremes of temperature. Figure it as a long delayed second childhod.

A guy's just got to admit his limitations, is all. I'll be around, but probably not as often.

Greg

Jeez, I just missed that bus late Thursday night. DVT Left Femoral Artery. Two surgeries, lotta Heparin drips, and I'm back home, as of last night. Thought I was a'gonner.

The good folks at TMC (Tucson Medical Center ) had me up and walking yesterday afternoon. Just luck and pure cussedness!

Hope this stuff holds OK. They're telling me this bugger has been getting badder over time; and that this intervention may leave me with more spunk.

Dear Lawd, PLEEZ, no more spunk!!!!

Greg;

...And, THX for all the HB's.

FWIW these days, I'm running a dead even race with the various ills and local bugs. My attitude is still rather simple; I ain't done until I say I'm done...

Glad to see you around. I joined the hide in 08, and always remember you as quick to help out answering questions.
Take care of yourself

Returning to this topic; my VA Pulmonologist has informed me that A) my latest CAT Scan indicates that my pneumonia-induced lung(s) injury(s) have disappeared, and that, B) the very recent annual Home Oxygen assessment determines that I am borderline nearly independent upon O2. I find that I need it when I'm not sofa'd out.

There is some issue with the Assessment being done at nearly 3000ft lower altitude than where I live; that's where that borderline resides.

I have decided that all I need to get myself over that top is to work more diligently on my physical condition; less couch, less bar stool. Warmer weather will help; right now, every night it gets to sub-freezing outdoors.

I believe that I have a chance at coming back. I already did it twice before; once after each Lymphoma. Patience, diligence, and some caution are the order of that day. Maybe my historic resilience is still up there on the shelf. I know one thing; when I die, it won't ever be for not trying...

Don't ever let folks tell you that VA Healthcare is substandard. It's not especially convenient, but it meets with my needs quite well.

Yep, that's my basic approach; let my body tell me when I'm pushing my limits. I keep a Pulse Oximeter on my person, and a BP cuff nearby.

My best PO2 range is 89-93%, but I can function briefly right on down to 82%, and tend to get hyperventilated above 95%.

We have a treadmill that needs to be dug out from under the Garage Junk, and that will be a basic foundation to any physical recovery I can attain. More than that, we'll just have to wait and see.

My BP is med regulated, and is kept down below 120, sometimes down to 100. I find I can function at lower levels better than many of the folks around me, including those with Inogen 5's like my own. Mine is used pretty exclusively for O/O the house, the VA supplied Concentrator is big and does the indoor work.

Another issue with me is digestive bloating; it can make it a lot harder to keep my PO2 up in the "yup zone". I have to watch my fluid intake very closely, my drinks limit is two R & C's and beyond that, I have to actively engage in fluid reduction.

My primary health issues are CHF and COPD. 2021 was my year for week-long hospital stays, but (Knock On Wood). The local paramedics and the nearby hospital know me on a first-name basis. The difference between 2021 and 2022 is the way I've learned how to regulate my fluid intake better.

This year, I've manage do to stay off the transport, and out of the hospital, and life is decidedly better; despite the issues surrounding Celia's loss. That is gonna take all of the time I have left to get reconciled with. It's not the basic one-and-done thing I was hoping for. It will take as long as it takes, rushing it does not work. I don't mind; it's just a part of my normal life now.

My Daughter's arrival as a full time, permanent household family member has turned out to be a lot more pleasant event than I had expected, and Thanksgiving Dinner with her and my two older Grandkiddos will be unforgettable. Life is improving. Jen's found employment, and that will help with the money issues associated with losing Celia's portion of our SS and VA compensation. We're making it; and we absolutely do NOT want to attract any donors.
