Hello all, interested in finally purchasing my first .22 cal target/match rifle, I honestly don't want to spend more than $500.00 and I narrowed the choices down to a kimber 82g, and a ruger 10/22 target tactical, I will be putting a scope on which ever one I purchase, just need some advice on what will be the better performer with good quality ammo, e.g. Sk standard plus, lapua center x, eley tenex etc.. All advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

The 82G is closer to a real centerfire sniper rifle that should put all its shots on a dime (1/2" or under)from the bench/bipod with good ammo. Tho 10/22s are great (I have 2) most of the time they are not that accurate, and the triggers stink. If you want a sharpshooter trainer, get the 82g. If you want a AR type trainer get the 10/22 .

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

the ammo you mention is likely a mismatch for a 500$ rifle, try the bulk CCI blazer, federal or win, lots of good rifle choices around 500 including the CZ's try to shoot a few to see what you like

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

Thanks alot for your responses, I shot a few 10/22's and noticed that they are either hit or miss, haven't seen that target tactical model but I know people who are constantly doing work to their 10/22's and I rarely see any difference in their shooting, I think I'm going to go with the 82G, however do you know which mount/rings I will need to mount a scope on it?

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

Good choice.......10/22s are fun but for real bolt gunbtraining the 82 is perfect

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

Great choice on the 82G. I've ordered mine, but is still hasn't arrived yet. It's like an eternal wait.

I have read that the DIP 11mm bases for the CZ's work with the 82G's. I haven't tried it so I'm not positive they will work, but DIP states it on their website.

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

Really how long ago did you place the order? I was hoping that it didn't take too long being I have a .22 match in the next few weeks, did you order a rusty or a new one?

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

Thanks, do you recommend any mods to the 82g other than a quality optic?, e.g. Target crown on the barrel?, trigger work

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

I placed it on the 6th of June, but they say that it can take four to five weeks. So I guess that I've still got two or three weeks to go.

All they have left are the Rusty's. From what I've seen though they aren't rusty. I shoot with three friends at the local range who all use them for various shooting matches, and none of them had a speck of rust on them even though they were all "rusty's".

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

for 500 you will be hard pressed to beat a CZ 452 in any of the trims. the kimber is a super rifle but the "rusty" kimbers from cmp are kind of a gamble some have come in mint condition with no rust to speak of and some come with huge knife marks down the stock with rust every where. if your looking for a project then go with the kimber. if your looking for a rifle to put a scope on and shoot 1/2" at 50 out of the box look into the CZs id recommend a 452 American or varmint if your planning on scoping it.

as far as the 10/22 target tactical goes ... its a looker sure. and in theory it should shoot really well since it has every thing done to it most people would do to normal 10/22. how ever some are shooters ... some are pigs again its a gamble.

I personally have a 10/22 target. the barrel is good but the trigger was terrible and the stock had to go so i ended up still spending another 250 on top of the 510 otd price at my local gunshop to make it a shotter. if i had to do it over i would have bought a stock carbine and put a clark barrel, pc trigger job and the bell and carlson stock, for starters at least. i would have saved at least 150 doing it that way.

I also have a CZ 452 varmint in .17HMR. the fit and finish on this rifle is way beyond what you get with a 500 dollar ruger. it is also a tack driver right out of the box with an adjustable trigger and you can get the pull down to 1 lb or less with just swapping a $.50 spring. while it is not nearly as customizable as the ruger i feel it doesn't need to be to be in a whole other class. Also i picked up my CZ for 445 shipped from buds to a shop 30 mins away. 25 dollar transfer fee meant i paid way less for it than the ruger. put that saved money towards scope rings or ammo. Manners is also coming out with a T4 stock for the CZ to make it a great center fire trainer. info is in the group buy section.DIP inc also makes some great add ons for the CZ a dovetail to picatinny rail and super nice bottom metal among others.

Moral of the story is the kimber will shoot the best if you want a project. ruger might shoot 1/2" at 50 out of the box or it might need some mods to get it there. and a stock CZ should shoot 1/2" at 50 and if it doesn't there is some thing wrong with the rifle that CZ USA will usually fix under warranty.

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

Thanks for your input, I am going go look into the cz, but I just kinda like the look and feel of that kimber, but as everyone says buy what fits best! Thanks again guys

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

One thing to note, the Kimbers are in a limited quantity....and from what I've seen, used ones on the auction sites have gone up in price allready...You can allways buy a 10/22 or a CZ for that matter The Kimbers are limited.....And as a side bar, The Kimbers are'nt rusty and there is a razor knife mark on the side ...on some not all ..easy fix any way. They do need to be cleaned up as some bolts have old gummy oil in them..and if you don't like iron sights you can sell them for about 100$

Is there any advantage to having a semiauto vs single shot in this match with time limits, positional shooting, etc?

Owned both but the 10-22 is a Ruger Race Rifle.

I thought the K882 to be a big ole boat, although good for some purposes like shooting prone or off a bipod.

10-22 is just more versatile and plenty accurate, easy 3/4 moa with Wolf but better most of the time.I actually shot my smallest group with it at 50Y at .2" CTC for 5 shots.I put a Jard 1.5 LB trigger in it and wouldn't hesitate using it in a 22 tactical type match.

the CZs are also limited now the 452 has been discontinued and replaced with the 455 whos accuracy is still up in the air for now.the guys over at rimfire central have been snagging all the remaining 452s while they can

you might want to visit rimfire central as there are many people there who own all 3 rifles and there is a wealth of knowledge over there.

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

Just filled out all the paper work for the 82g, Sending this out tommorow over night to CMP, Just shot a friends 82G and at 100 yards it was grouping the size of a dime with 24x scope.

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

I do not think you will be displeased; In my opinion, you made the correct choice.

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

What you say is true, but, there is only one mod of 82g made for a few years, mostly for the Govt. allthough I think there were a few made for commercial sales..The CZ, a GREAT rifle has 9 styles of 452....American,Varmint,Lux,Ultra,Scout, and Full stockto name a few and has been in production for years.Read the rampage about the 82g's in the Kimber section at Rim.Cen.... I like them both and the 10/22...lol Hell, get all of them!!

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

I'm glad about your decision. If people here can't help with scope mounting optionss go to www.rimfirecentral.com, The nice peeps on the Kimber section will be very helpfull getting you set up. Then just swab the barrel, check the screws and you're good to go. Try different ammo's to see what agrees with your rifle,. Good Luck PS following my own advise I think I'll buy a "rusty" myself. Its just a question of one or two since in The Socialist Republic of NJ we have to get our CMP rifles through a FFL

Re: Which .22 should I go with?, kimber 82g or 10/22?

After put a $200-300 barrel and a $300 KID trigger, you will a 10/22 that shoot like a stock Kimber. And I like 10/22 (about in 8, with 3 shooters). My Team Challenger gun ran $2000.
Unrest if you plan a lot speed events, get a Kimber, or CZ.

Personally, I would have gone with a Kimber Model 82 Sporter (detachable magazine-fed repeater) as they are also very accurate. The Model 82 Sporters were guaranteed to shoot .400" or better at 50 yards and shipped with a laminated 5-shot "proof" card, but to each his own.

That said, since you're going to scope your Model 82G you should consider the picatinny rail that U.S. Optics makes for the Kimber 82G. I've seen it in person and it is very nice.
