I just dropped my .308 off with Mark Pharr down in Austin, TX to have it re-barreled in .260. Mark suggested I take a look at the 6.5X47. Since I have a number of weeks before the barrel is in, I have a little time to decide. I have been trying to do some research on 6.5CM, 6.5X47 and the .260. I like the idea that I can get Lapua brass with the 6.5X47 and it appears I can load up to get about the same performance as the .260. Any reason to not go with the 6.5X47?

Re: Which 6.5?

They are all so similar that it will just come down to personal preference.

Mark Pharr barreled a tactical precision rifle in .260 for me last year. It is an absolute hammer. I love my .260. I just use Winchester 7mm08 brass... one trip through the .260 FL sizing die and it becomes .260 brass.
I like that in a pinch I can make .260 brass out of .308, .243, 7mm08 brass, etc.
I also like that (unlike the 6.5x47 small rifle primers) it uses large rifle primers like my .308's. No biggie... but I like keeping components the same.

I have heard good things about the creedmoors as well...

I don't think Mark would ever give you bad advice, but remember he is sponsored by Lapua....:)

Re: Which 6.5?

I have both and would lean to the .260. Thats the route I went with my tactical rifle. If moneys not an issue the 6.5x47 isn't bad but I like the win 7-08 brass for the .260. Norma make .260 as well as nosler. I have alot of lapua brass ans I like it but it hasn't been any better than the rest. The winchester is great for the money.IMO. Thats just my way of looking at it. Most of the difference is Large primer vs. small primer. and the brass selection. .260 has a small ballistic advantage I think too.

Re: Which 6.5?

I just built my third 6.5X47L. It is superb. .260 is equal and if you want to have uniform componants then by all means go with it.
I shoot a lot of .308 I have small rifle and large rifle primers, just like I have small pistol and large pistol primers.
I like the lapua brass. I got 5 loads before I had to do anything other than neck size.
YMMV

Re: Which 6.5?

Mark likes the 6.5L because he's a silhouette guy, my smith likes the 6.5CM because he's a HP guy.

Only reason I'm not going 260 next barrel is that I already have a gasgun in 6.5CM

I'm with ya Jerry, seems noone can find shit out for themselves, or they just need affirmation

Re: Which 6.5?

I went with the 260AI. It will push a 142g SMK @ 3,000 fps. 6.5x47 can not push the heavies that fast. It all comes down to what you are trying to do with your rifle. I wouldn't mind building a 6.5x47 for the 123g pills. Its a great round.

Re: Which 6.5?

Thanks for the replies. I was waiting for the learn how to use the search function comment. I think I am going to stick with the .260. It appears to move the heavier bullets a little better. I also like the idea of having several different options for brass. I will try and do a little write up when I get the rifle back.
