Rifle Scopes Which base for my 21mil scope to reach 1k yards?

Hey all,

I can't afford a Nightforce so I'm going to get a Vortex Viper PST which has 21 mils of elevation adjustment and I need it to reach out to 1000 yards on my .308 700P.

I don't have an optic mounted on it yet so I haven't fired it to do ballistics but I'm sure the 700P in .308 w/ 26" barrel is pretty common to give me an idea as to what scope base I need to adjust this scope to reach 1000 yards.

I do not know what my bullet drop will be. The only thing I can tell you is my father and I will be doing hand loads of 168gr bullets.

Also, do I need to compensate my zero at 100-200 yards to compensate for having a canted base? If so, someone please school me on this in the easiest way possible.

first off, if you are looking to get to 1000yds id find a different bullet than the 168. Try the 155s or 175s. Get a 20 MOA base and you will be good.

They don't stay super sonic past about 800-900 and destablilize. 1k hits become more than luck than precision.

Like deadly said, you'll need the 155s or 175s.

brand692 knows what he is talking about. the 168s are only good for about 900 yards until they become unstable. the 175 matchkings can get out to around 1100. My personal preference is the 155 lapua scenars, which will fly to around 1400 because of their high B.C.

The 155 scenars take me 9.3 mils for 1k and the 175 scenars take me 10.5 mils from my zero. I would personally just get a 20 MOA picatinny rail and you should be good.
