I am in the process of building a dpms pattern 308 rifle. My aim is to build something a little lighter and more nimble than the 24'" lr 308 I currently own. I also just have the itch to build one from the ground up (it's just the gear-head in me). I have been collecting the pieces over time, and have most of the parts to assemble this thing, but I have a question. If this is a stupid question, please be gentle, as this is my first complete build.

I am using a Ballistic Advantage 18" , 1-10 , med contour barrel that is drilled for a mid-length gas system. With that said, should I be looking for a buffer/tube/spring set-up specific to the mid-length gas system, or tailor it to the load(s) I'm using? I hear of carbine length or rifle length tubes, but can't recall hearing of mid-length tubes. My intended loads will be 150-178gr, if that's of any help.

Rifle length or carbine length buffer/spring is dependent upon the receiver extension (buffer tube) you use, not on the gas port position.
