I am looking to buy a bullet comparator and I figured I'd ask what you guys are using. I was going to buy the PTG comparator that looks a bolt nut. What do you guys think?

Thanks

Re: Which bullet comparator?

I use two Hornady units and a plano dial calipers, fast easy n cheap, digital calipers are nice and easy to read but the old school dial is IMHO more accurite.

Re: Which bullet comparator?

All of the various comparitors work, each has it's fans and detractors based on personal tastes and work methods. Telling you which I use would be no more valid than any other choice; pick one that looks good to you and use it happily.

Re: Which bullet comparator?

I've never used anything other than my Hornady comparator, so I'm not qualified to tell you if it's better than anything else. However, I'm very happy with it and couldn't foresee buying something different.

I also use Hornady's OAL gauge to measure seating depth and am well satisfied with it.

Re: Which bullet comparator?

I went ahead and just got the Hornady... It had all the calibers I used and I liked that it clamps on to the calipers.

Thanks guys!

i haven't had any experience with any besides the hornady but its worked great and simple to use.

I learn something new every day...

Thanks!

Re: Which bullet comparator?

You should definitely get the headspace gauges too. That way you can setup whatever dies you're using for the appropriate amount of should bump.

One of Tresmon's stickies above talks about using two of them to measuring load bearing surface of the bullet. You'll need two inserts for a given bullet though.

Re: Which bullet comparator?

My first comparator was the 5 sided nut, still have it but it can be...complicated.
My second was a Hornady comparator, but they switched to a material that feels like plastic.
Now the only thing I buy are the Sinclair inserts (stainless steel) but I still use the Hornady comparator body.
