This will be for Remington 700 .308 5R in an XLR Industries Evolution chassis with a SWFA SS 5-20x50 Tactical 30mm Riflescope.

Scope height criteria: http://www.xlrindustries.com/Technical.html

I want to be able to switch the optic out on different bolt and semi auto guns as I choose and be confident it will return to zero. Is any forward offset a good idea to look for? Or what will be the best height to take care of most applications?

Also, is there any difference between a Badger Ordinance and Seekins Precision 20 moa rail?

Re: Which integral QD scope mount?

Personally, I don't think a QD scope mount holds zero good enough for a precision rifle. After repeated dismounts my last QD was losing zero more and more and this was with a Nightforce NSX. Not saying they are of good quality, they just do not hold up to my requirements for holding zero on a 1000 yard rifle. It would be more ideal in my opinion to get a nice pair of rings that fit both your rifle base and your flat top receiver and switch them up with a torque wrench. But if you do end up going the QD route I would get a Larue.

Re: Which integral QD scope mount?

I discussed with my optics manufacturer using a QD mount vs moving the scope with its rings. His opinion was strongly in favor of moving the rings between the two rifles (with Picatinny rails bases). He said it's no problem undoing and re-tightening the base screws on the rings (while keeping the "scope" ring screws fastened/torqued), and the only thing to watch for - make sure to torque to the same value. Two advantages - repeatable zero, and low scope height (one problem with the QD mounts is they're darn high). One disadvantage - need a torque wrench to move the scope from one rifle to the other (on the other hand, I don't envision doing that in the field

There is no way for you to tell if the picatinny rails are pointing the same direction on the two rifles till you try it. I'd bet the zeroes will be off a bit between the two, even if it is repeatable on the same rifle. JMHO

Couldn't care less. Repeatability is my only goal here.

99.9% probability says you're correct. But it's not a problem: move the scope, readjust the zero. Keep good records, so readjusting zero does not turn into re-zeroing every time the scope is moved.
