I am looking at buying my first Kestrel to use in long range 22 rimfire shooting. Which unit should I buy that will do what I need to do out to 400 yds +_? Everyone seems to advise the 5700 Elite but, can the Hor 4dof do it as well? Is Hornady just for Hornady bullets or can you import any bullet you want? I'm also a believer in by once/cry once but no need to have too much overkill and I don't expect I will ever compete in the CF world anymore.

I run the Elite AB version and it's been working well with the factory drag curve for Lapua Center-X.
I can upload custom drag curves also and I would think the 4DOF would work the same way.

The ELITE as it adds so much more.... Up top 30 gun profiles, DSF, target and range cards and all the AB custom curves are included. Otherwise you might as well just use a a phone app and get a Drop 3 for environmentals other than wind.
My buddy has the 4dof. No DSF function- which we find very helpful. It has that feature where you adjust for actual poi ( I can't remember the name)- but that just does the whole curve. No custom drag curves as I recall.
The sportsman could be upgraded to the elite, or at least I believe they still can. It's just a software thing.
