I am thinking of getting a 16” 6 creed barrel for my DT. What powder would you guys suggest? Thinking 105g projectiles. This will be used 200 yds and closer for hunting whitetails. Just think it would very handy.

That's not a terrible place to start, but I would go a lot heavier on the bullet. I'd be shooting at least 140s if not heavier.

I'd go faster than Varget...more like H4895. Not my ideal for a normal sized barrel, but it's performance should improve over a slower powder in a shorter one. Should. I've never played with one, so I'm guessing.

He is shooting 6mm not 6.5 so 140 is not available. Varget is a good choice but you could probably still get away with RL 16. W740 maybe if you want faster burn.

You really think there's that big a difference between RL16 and Varget? I think of those as being very close to the same burn rate, and it being preference and load performance at that point..
Well. I'd bet he could run close to 41gr of 16 with a 105 gr bullet, try that charge with varget and get back to me. RL 16 is closer to H4350 burn rates.

I’m really still trying to decide between the 6.5 or 6 Creed. As I said this will be just for hunting deer. I have 16 lbs of Varget so I’ll try that first then if I can’t get the accuracy and speed I will ease up on the burn scale. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something.
Opinions on 6.5 or 6 CM?

I've seen 6.5s perform well in short barrels. I've never seen of or heard of short 6s. Generally, 6s perform well with longer barrels. However, given your situation, a short 6 may be fine. You won't need the energy out to 1K. Since you want to hunt with it, and I'm guessing within 400 yards, you might get away with it. Still, if it were me, I'd do a short 6.5. Either way you go, good luck and post pics both of the rifle and the deer!
