I'm getting into the reloading game and I need some help picking out my die set. I'll be reloading for a 700 in .308, with a factory barreled action, punching paper and steel out to 1000yds+. Probably going to use Hornady brass, Varget and 175gr SMK/178gr AMAX to start off. I plan on using a Hornady single stage press.

I wanted to go with Redding, but I don't know which exact set to go with (competition, national match, etc...). Thanks for all your advice

I would suggest not buying a "set" of Redding dies but buy the individuals to get the correct ones. Start with a Redding Competition seating die (or buy the Forster for $30 less) and the Redding body die then get yourself a Lee collet die for neck sizing. If the Hornady brass is as good as Lapua then you won't need any others.

Keep it simple. Yes, a comp seating die is key. But in addition, just get a full length sizing die, 'S' type with bushings so you get the right neck tension. Don't bother with the neck and body dies.

I like the competition seating dies and type S FL die.
I use the type S FL die initially after neck turning, the Lee Collet Die to neck size after firing, and the type S FL die again after annealing when bumping the shoulder after several firings.
