Trying to mount a Leupold Mark AR 3-9X40 scope onto my flattop AR. The objective lens is 40mm. I want to get the Leupold PRW rings but should I get the low or medium height rings?
Re: Which rings for an AR and Leupold Mark AR scope?
To put the optic at the right height for an AR, you usually need some flavor of ultra high rings. I've seen guys running low rings because they wanted the scope low, but boy did they look funny trying to get a cheek weld.
I like this setup for ARs...
Larue, Bobro and American Defense all have their own versions. Mine is an American Defense. If low cost is what you're looking for, the Burris PEPR is nice. You could also go with a yankee hill extension riser and medium rings, like this....
It's on the rifle on the top. Don't make fun of the build. It was one of my first.
With that scope you're looking at, you're likely going to need some sort of cantilever setup to get the right eye relief, unless you're running an A2 stock.
Re: Which rings for an AR and Leupold Mark AR scope?
You could also look at the GG&G FLT 1383 quick detach mount and put a set of 1" delrin reducers in it. I did this with a vortex viper on my S&W MP15-22 and it works like a dream.
The height from the centerline of the 30mm integral rings to the top of the dovetail mounting platform is 1.460 inches. The center to center dimension of the rings is 3.750 inches.
