Guys, I'm not lookin' to stir the pot or anything, but which state do you think produces the best shooters. And by best I mean everything, all types of competitions, hunting, etc. I figured it would be the plains states like Texas, Oklahoma, etc. However, I know there are a lot of shooters in Kalifornia (something I didn't know until I joined this site) and I know Pennsylvania has some good ole boys that can shoot, which are not plains states. Anyway, your thoughts?

Your question is flawed in the fact that you believe geography has anything to do with skill. The only factor geography may play is giving the skilled the opportunity to realize their talent.

Doesn't everyone get 1/4 minute groups all day long?
I know AZ is one of the best states to shoot USPSA in, lots of world champions and grand masters. As for bolt gun shooters, i don't think there is one state that is better than the other.

I'm gonna have to condone this a tie between SD, Wyo, and Montana. Up here our right of passage is a .22 rifle.

I'd say any state where people hunt for their food will produce good shooters. Not world class 1k shooters, but boys who can get it done when it needs to be done.

PA has a lot of hunters and people that need to hunt for food, but I wouldn't consider most people here good shooters. I rarely ever here a single shot during deer season. People just keep shooting. There is no need for long range skills during hunting given that most shots are under 100 yards.
Certainly there are plenty of shooters in this state that are excellent but I don't think it has anything to do with the hunting.

I would say its Illinois since Chicago is the murder capital of the US. I bet most of those killed were by people using knuckles to sight with.
