looking to find a spotter that's capable of allowing me to see .223 holes at 200-300 yrds.

i've read that the Konus has decent lens clarity for the money...

this model: Konus 7120

Re: who has a Konus spotter?

I have one. It is ok, you should be able to see 223 holes at 200 and 300 on good days. I can see them better with my 22X NF scope but everytime I have shot lately I have had bad mirage. Overall, it is not bad for the money.

Re: who has a Konus spotter?

I like my Konus (I have the 20-60x80) I use for NRA service rifle competition. It's a great scope for the money, and you should be able to see .223 holes at that distance under the right conditions. My only gripe about the scope is its short eye relief. Not nearly as good as a Kowa (obviously), but pretty damn good for 25% of what the Kowa sells for retail.

Re: who has a Konus spotter?

I own both a Kowa 821 and a Konus 20-60x100mm. Now granted I am comparing 82mm to 100mm lenses but the Konus is clearer! The eye relief is too short on the konus to be anything but a bench scope.
For the money get a konus and live with the issues.

PS. they also weigh a TON!

Re: who has a Konus spotter?

I would agree with the other opinions,I have the Konus for Highpower shooting and for the money I am very happy with it,the scope has very good clarity.

Re: who has a Konus spotter?

I also agree with the opinions above. I would ditch the tripod that comes with it as it's pretty flimsy. Get yourself a nice sturdy tripod and you should be good to go.

Re: who has a Konus spotter?

BULLET,
i was looking at their 100 model as well.
was wondering how much better it could be compared to the 80

it does look very heavy even in the pics...for $100 more than the 80 it might be worth checking out.

Re: who has a Konus spotter?

I have used both the 80MM and 100MM vesions of the spotter. Clarity appeared the same on both models. The 100MM will be better in low light. The added cost of the 100MM version isn't worth it for most shooting applications. The 100MM is also large, heavy, and generally less handy. Furthermore, I'm not sure the 100MM version rotates 360 degrees (inverts) which is handy when shooting prone (maybe someone else can answer this). The 80MM is better at the range IMO. If you do 1000 yard shooting there may be some advantage with the 100MM, but I doubt it with normal daylight

Re: who has a Konus spotter?

The 100mm rotates 360 just like the 80mm.
If weight is not a issue then get the 100mm you can crank up the magnification to 60 till dusk. If portability is more important then the 80mm would be better. You loose a little light gathering ability but also loose weight and size.
+1 on getting a good tripod, the one that comes with the scope is too flimsy.

Re: who has a Konus spotter?

I have the 100mm with an old digital point and shoot camera attached. This way I can use the little LCD on the back of my camera to see my bullet holes on target. They sell adapters that work with digital SLR cameras by replacing the eyepiece.

Funny you bring this up.. For bench shooting I use a 2MP video camera, kinda like a security camera. Hooked up to my laptop, nothing like seeing your target on a 15" screen. Also even less movement out of position to look at the screen than to look through the scope.

Re: who has a Konus spotter?

With the laptop I plug in the Kestrel and have all of that info as well as the target. You can also place the scope out of the way since it doesn't need to be right next to you to look through.
