Who has had their eyes opened and truly changed their level of understanding? For better? Or Worse?

The last five years I have seen The Republic fail in Ways that I am convinced it cannot/will not recover from. There is no "Plan" to correct/repair it from what I can see and that's a real change for me in the last 6 years. Prior to 2016 I thought we might somehow make the right changes and prevent this failure but I'm now convinced The Republic is doomed - beyond repair. It'll crash and have to be rebuilt.

Big change for me as I believed prior to 2016 that there was enough resources to get it back on track.

I just wanted to see if anyone changed sides. Either way. Or saw how far the rabbit hole goes. Like many here, I like the word, I became more entrenched. I knew it was bad but I didn’t even conceive of it being this bad and blatant. Election night ripped off what little was left of my rose colored glasses. I had no idea the level of insanity they would reach. But here we are with the literal fleecing of Americans just for corrupt politicians to line their pockets. Just waiting on the breaking point.

Not changed, just reinforced. Galvanized, if you will

Same here. I formed some hardcore libertarian positions as someone who came of voting age just as my government burned the Branch Davidians, carried those same principles into the Global War on Terror when I routinely got shit on by what I thought were my fellow conservatives, and now I'm feeling more vindicated than ever before.

It's not a matter of movement right vs left, because that axis doesn't reflect freedom vs tyranny. I heard more than enough chest-beating about people being "more right-wing than Attila the Hun" while advocating for bombing foreign countries and detaining citizens without due process and endlessly printing money. Fuck that noise.

Well, for me, it wasn't 5-6 years ago, but more like 10. I was a liberal but, having been strongly groomed by my liberal family (who remain strongly liberal today), I never understood why. As I began to see the falacies in liberal philosophy and the "control" over which libs (especially in Govt) wanted to have over everyone, combined with my "rebirth" into the 2A world, my

meter started to strengthen, and I changed. I started to have greater issues with where my taxes were going (and how much they were taking), among other things. It helped that I had settled in a county in the PRNJ that was, believe it or not, strongly Republican. There were no strong Dem candidates on primary ballots. They were all GOP. I then decided that I would switch parties just to act as a "spoiler" in primaries so I could vote democratic in the generals. But I changed. I started voting strongly for the GOP candidates I wanted. And I never went back.

Today, it's all a "WTF was I thinking" thing for me. I'm so proud of leaving the dem party and I do all I can to fight for a unified Republican party that can get our people elected. And get our laws passed.

I don't think we're ever going to see a unified Republican party either. Far too many of them are RINOs and just well-paid "controlled opposition" to the Democraps. The non-RINOs may as well be trying to run as independents, because the GOP refuses to give up any of their advertising/media budget for them to help win an election.

    Yes sir...
    Very well put

Congratulations, everyone in this thread. We’ve been added to another list, I’m sure!

After listening to Dave Smith on Rogan's podcast the other week, I made my first ever donation directly to a political party when I officially joined both the national Libertarian party and that of my state. Pretty sure *that* put me on a list.

Bravo man. Truly. My personal goals are to share enough truth to hopefully change the mind of one person. Even if I never hear of it. Truth is all that matters.

I’m getting closer to joining, maybe. I still might have too much aversion to any political solution

I was preaching all this to anyone that would listen back in the early 00s. Most people figured i was nuts. A lot agreed just not to the extent. Not that im happy about it but i feel vindicated now. The sad part now is most realize it but dont really care.

    Trump exposed the Deep State.
It was bigger and darker than I gave it credit for.

What's scary to me is how many NPCs and commie freaks the military has in their command structure. I would've thought guys like Mattis would be able to put aside their politics etc. Orangemanbad isn't on board with globalism, I'm taking my ball and going home!

I maintain faith in the potential for a political solution. But then I hear shit like "yeah, I really like what Dave Smith is saying and maybe I'll vote for him in 2028 or 2032, but it's just too important to win in 2024" and I realize we're going to repeat the same cycle ad infinitum. So maybe I wasted $85. It's probably worth it to keep playing the "I Told You So" card.

When I was young, I was never "left", but very wary of the gov. This was when the moral authoritarian far right religious fanatics controlled the Republicans. The democrats were still God fearing, but mistaken folks that loved America. (The first presidential election that I was interested in was Ford vs Carter). I remember the whole music censorship deal with both parties trying to one up each other with their faux outrage. Thank God for dee snider.
I have always been more libertarian, but they frequently run morons like Gary Johnson.
Of course, libertarians want to go to far with the isolationist bullshit. We do have interests overseas, but we get way too involved.
I tend to vote republican, because their lip service is closest to my beliefs.
    They all suck.

I came to voting age right around the time 9/11 happened. Thought the Neo cons on the right were the problem, then watched what Obama did and holy fuck the democrats are even more evil.

Then here comes Trump by this time was completely turned off by both parties... then I watched Trump turn the bushes and the Neo Cons out. Made me believe if either of the majors has a chance its the people who are Republicans, not some of the slime balls elected.

2020 watched the Democrats lie and lean so far left they literally had a socialist Bernie Sanders campaigning for them.

Still a registered Independent, but cautiously vote Republican. I want to see the Republican ideology move forward but still gotta clean the house on some of the shit bags in the party.

I just love to hear leftists stories of waking up. This isn’t really Democrat vs Republican at all. JFK I feel was to the right of Trump. The Overton Window has just shifted that much. I’m farther right than Rush Limbaugh, but I’m not a totalitarian either. Individual free will is literally they key to everything. I don’t think any of our presidents have been perfect. Even the great Ronald Reagan messed up badly on some issues. We can never vote perfect into the office. My favorite political statement is my motto.

I can say I haven't changed philosophically , but I will say that as a newly registered Democrat, I get all of their juicy details sent to me. Just this morning I got a text message from the central committee with a few details that I probably would never see as a Republican.

Being from Maryland, the R's never sent out info but as a D, I get tons of their plans and ideas. I'm more informed now than ever before. It's nice to know your enemy.

I've thought for quite a while that the "two party" system is really just like a ship running a zig zag pattern. Interesting quote from quick online search:

Zig-zagging – the practice of frequently altering direction to port or starboard – was designed to disguise a convoy's true course and confuse the enemy. All ships followed the same pattern, one of several top-secret zig-zag diagrams, created by Admiralty anti-submarine experts

    Note a couple of things:
"disguise a convoy's true course" = hide where they're taking us
"confuse the enemy" - that would be us

Run-On Sentence Story of our Country Right Now.....

Two 95yr old blind and drunk guys fighting over the steering wheel of a bus full of citizens on a winding and dangerous mountain road that's mined with IEDs from Russia, China and North Korea - while 20-something year old toddlers wearing Bernie shirts are shouting from the third row that they want free abortions and free college and don't want to go to work and that somebody else should be paying for their ride in the bus anyway - as a bunch of cross-dressing twinks blow each other at the back of the bus, which competes with the speech by the mentally ill teenager about climate change as the rest of the riders scream in disbelief that there's no way this is all happening to them on their way to church. The only real argument is whether the bus should be diesel powered, LPG powered, or coal powered via battery before it crashes in the ditch on the left or the right on the way to Walgreens for a vaccination booster.

    Politicians priorities are:

    1st. "My team."

(Priority one, day one, start working on getting re-elected.)
    (Get rich along the way.)
(Do the bidding of special interest to advance the first two.)

    2nd. "The team."

(We're really all on the same team, just different uniforms.)
(Keep the game going, don't upset your team or any other teams.)
(Players first, party member second, public servant last.)

    3nd. "Our team".

(Doing what's right for my constituents as long as it falls in line with 1 & 2.)

Sure, there are plenty of them with agendas, like Bernie, the worlds wort communist, but true to form even his ideology comes second.

    I am 75 years old.

From the 1960 election on...... I remember.

I believe I was born from immigrant parents a conservative and a Patriot . During the past 12 years I too have change my political perspective.

I believe we have lost our ways, our democracy and our nation as we knew them. This nation is ruptured down the middle and that rupture will magnify every year that passes.

I will vote Republican out of habit.

Politicians (95% of them) have become professionals like doctors, lawyers, nurses, journalists etc. they are working for themselves and their families. The only difference from the real professionals in our society is that our representatives have realized they can become rich and powerful by stealing, and the more times they get reelected the more time they have to amass power and wealth.

Our system and constitution was built upon the belief and principle that our elected representatives are there to enact laws that will preserve and honor our Democracy and Nation. This is no longer true. Laws enacted by these "people" reflect their corrupted ethical values not those of the Nation.

I believe we as citizens have failed ourselves and the United States of America when we failed to curb or restrain our representatives from becoming corrupt selfish beings.

It is on us.......there is nobody else to blame.

The United States of America is fast becoming one more of world history failed political experiments and empires. Only from tearing down the system from the outside and rebuilding it will Our Nation will persevere. We did it once...... when we fought and won over English tyranny during The Revolutionary War.

everyone should change parties to be a dem

you can then vote for the most conservative dem on the ballot

in elections you can vote as you see fit so go back to voting repub

hopefully worst case is the dem elected is more center than left

my mother did it years ago

I don't think that works. Years back, I wanted Bill Clinton to win the democratic nomination, because I knew there was no way that crooked POS could ever get elected President.

    Eh yup.

Since this thread in about political change, I'll talk about how my views about Trump changed. During the Clinton-Trump election I was pulling for Clinton to win. Not because I liked her or her politics, but rather myself and co-workers were in a betting pool and given the odds and how much money I bet, I would have come out really nice if Clinton won, but alas Trump did and I lost out. So those sour grapes from losing out made me a bit biased towards Trump at first. I then started hating him more and more based on just his shitty attitude and narcissism. Sure, he was funny at times, but more cringe than funny. So what changed my opinion about Trump? Two words.........Ilhan Omar. When she was talking about how Trump isn't a human being, it set something off in my head that instantly made me always wanna defend Trump. This is the same bitch that supports active terrorists who do awful things to women and children and she has the nerve to talk about someone else not being human being? So yeah, I may not be a huge......I mean yooge Trump supporter, but I do own a MAGA cap and a couple Trump shirts and do support him. However, I'm pulling for DeSantis in case that wasn't obvious by my other political posts here at the Hide.

The March of the Ents is one of the best battle scenes ever filmed…

And one of the better depictions of what happens when “those who just wanted to be left alone” finally have had enough of being poked.

Well, I've went from despising one side (liberal/Democrat freakshow asshats) & thinking I more aligned with the other side (conservative/republicans) to realizing both sides are mostly asshat pieces of SHIT working together AGAINST US & they only fight in front of the camera to give the illusion of serving the Nation. Fuck'em all, traitorous bastards!!!!
