Rifle Scopes Who makes the best MRD

Re: Who makes the best MRD

I think the RDP-II is junk. The J-Point is nice, but it wouldn't be my first choice if my life depended on it.

My top three choices in order would be:
RMR, Doctor, Insight MRDS.

I currently have two Doctors, 1 J-Point, and 1 RPD-II (used to have two RDPs). While I like the Doctor, the newer Insight is much nicer, and the RMR better still.

Re: Who makes the best MRD

I have firsthand use of 5 different RDS.

When you handle a JPoint I would agree that it initially seems a little too fragile for a working gun. However I ran one on a 3 Gun Open Division shotgun for several thousand rounds. It was epoxied onto the barrel in a JP mount and survived not only the rounds but numerous tosses into dump barrels etc some of which I am sure smacked the little optic pretty well. It was extremely reliable the whole time and retained zero as well. It has made a believer out of me, good dot, great performance and a decent pricepoint. YMMV

That being said I do really like the Trijicon RMR and C More STS. Both seem bombproof, are easily adjustable. My nod to the the RMR since there is no need for batteries.

The Docter is not worth the money....no better performance than the jpoint, but twice the price and fragile electronics.

Burris Fastfire. Pretty durable little dot, I experienced some zero shifting but to be honest I may have not locked down the adjustment lock. My bad if I didn't, the scopes bad for a shitty design. Also the available dot is too small. I use it as a secondary optic within short distances and prefer a brighter more noticeable dot.

Re: Who makes the best MRD

The Docter RD has a glass lens, while the JP has a plastic lens and a little more visual distortion. You can find Docter RDs at a pretty good price right now too, although they are getting rare. I like the Trijicon MRD, based on what I've read, but think it's a little pricey. I have a current model Zeiss Z Point that I like so far, but haven't used it much for shooting yet. Of course, it's a little larger and not really an MRD.

Re: Who makes the best MRD

The easiest MRD to look through is the Leupold DeltaPoint. The DP has a larger eye box where you can see the dot, and also maintain an excellent FOV.

The Insight MRDS is supposed to be very rugged and durable. I've never used it and have heard very little about it, but what I have heard is positive.

Trijicon RMRs are great. The battery versions should be skipped, but the dual-illuminated fiber optic/tritium models are fantastic. No need for batteries means it'll never go dead on you in the middle of a match or training session, or in combat for that matter. RMRs are also tough as nails.

If I were going to mount an MRD on a combat weapon or a weapon that was going to see really hard use, I'd go with the RMR Dual-Illuminated. If it was going to be on a competition gun that was not going to get heavily abused, I'd probably go to the Leupold DeltaPoint.
