Is IOR glass the same as S&B glass but different coatings ? I thought I read some place Zeiss owns the factory that makes the glass for the top tier scopes .

Premium lenses are not poured, they start as a coin shaped blank, have the correct radius ground or diamond milled onto them, and then they are polished. If they are made in house at the scope manufacturers, dunno. They may be outsourced within their own country.

This question (very often specifically concerning IOR) keeps coming up. What discussion is being held where that keeps prompting these inquiries? Are car forums inundated with people asking who is Chevy's supplier for catalytic converters?
Their glass and the Mp8 reticle is spot on, as for the scopes durability so far so good. To my eye the only glass that beats it is the Kahles( havn't seen the Premier,Vortex or Hensoldt). I pray that my shit won't go down and thats kinda my own damn risk and it does leave some doubt but I turned one SnB into two scopes. Don't know where the glass comes from though but I can say that it rocks per my eye.
IOR uses Schott glass, as do several other top manufacturers. IOR has a long history with both Schott and Zeiss. Apparently Zeiss helped modernize/retool the IOR plant some years back and they also lent them some proprietary lens coating.
Its not who makes the glass that matters, its who grinds and coats the glass.
Now if IOR could make the other internals half as good as the glass, they would corner the sub $2000 high end FFP Tactical scope market. Gen1-3 SH IOR's really hurt their name in more ways than I would care to explain, so did them not listening to customer feedback and extending the tube rear of the turret housing. With the Gen4's, all they did is promis a better performing scope and slapped on a higher price. I just hope the higher price was to cover the cost of better internals.
