Just wondering who out there uses Fixed power scopes for most of there shooting or just with one perticular rifle. Would like to know thoughts on a Fixed 10 with a off set reddot for things that happen to get to close for that magnification to be useful.

Re: Who uses fixed powers.

No idea about 10x, but 4x works for the M4

Re: Who uses fixed powers.

For years I used a 10X atop my M24 never needing anything else...really if you think about it 90% or more shooters that have a vari power leave it at one magnification all the time.

Re: Who uses fixed powers.

Ive got a 10x on my M1A and use open sights for close. Good idea with the red dot tho. The one thing ive found running a red dot in the 1 oclock position mounted on a scope on my bolt action is, the red dot is so high from centerline of bore that there is a only very small range from you zero that it will be effective. Any further or closer and you POA POI are very far off. 4-6" +. If you could mount the red dot closer to the barrel it would work much better

Re: Who uses fixed powers.

Wow! Good to know. Its either a fixed power or vari with a FFP reticle. I'm hoping that with a 1'oclock dot that it won't be so bad with the M1. But the scope is already a long ways from the barrel center line riding on a Sadlak rail. I'll have to see.

Re: Who uses fixed powers.

I'm a big fan of fixed 10X scopes. There are times I wish I had a little more, and so I ordered a swfa fixed 16x. I almost never turn down less than 10 on my variables (I can't recall the last time I did).

I had a fixed 10x and a 1 o'clock red dot mounted on my hunting rifle. I took it off recently for that reason. It seemed to work fine at the range and I could shoot it quickly and accurately out to 50 yards. I had to dispatch a doe with a broken back recently and missed my shot at 20 feet because of the offset. Luckily I was able to walk up and finish the job at point blank, but it made my realize that you really have to think about that offset, and some situations aren't conducive to "thinking."

Even if you could mount it lower, the elevation knob would be in the way. The fixed 10x is fine for 50 yards and further.
