Why do i need to pin my lug on my 700??

ive all ways heard that being used, and I know it helps to index a second or third barrel to the action,
but is there really any reason to have this done if you don't plan on changing the barrel out for the most of the barrels life?

As long as there's a fixture to help keep the lug aligned, there's no necessity to having the lug pinned. But it's a nice little detail to have, especially if you're considering a switch barrel.
