I'm not sure it's that simple. The left is a fairly unified machine at this point, with many people engaging on web sites and apps, combined with MSM and the federal gov itself, that allow them unify their "messaging." The fact you don't hear as much backlash against DeSantis could well be a lesson learned, where just prior to 2016, they inadvertently boosted Trump's popularity when they tried to preemptively attack him from all media angles from day 1 of announcement, thereby gifting him immense free publicity for a year before the election. I am not saying it is "fact," but is a possibility why they are not yet as vocal about DeSantis yet, because they do not want to make that same "mistake."

It would literally have reversed the past 30 years of 'globalization' if the US had actually kept on doing what Trump started doing. I think @Rthur is correct, that as soon as an opposition candidate starts to emerge as a front-runner, and closer to 2024 election, then the left's machine will fully engage, guns blazing and will go just as hard as the Trump "resistance," with all of the same tricks of the trade.
