Why does NASCAR still exist...

NASCRAP is for inbred morons who think they know how to drive.

Even weekend autocrossers are better drivers than the typical NASCRAP fan.

Rally drivers are fucking GODS

Speaking of which, google Petter Solberg and then watch this:

what does the codriver do ?

telling him of turns, but is he telling him the gear or speed, or distance to turn ?

He's navigating. Telling the driver of everything about the road ahead before they come up to it. Drive and navigator develop a shorthand to keep up at speed.

I lived in Charlotte for 6 years and never could take a liking to it.

because people want to go watch the cars go by, and if you watch a rally race, you don't get to see very much.
for television, rally is awesome.
i got to drive a cosworth escort when i lived in the UK in the 90s.

I am going to guess most people don't really care too much about the race itself. The real reason NASCAR exists is for people to have an excuse to go somewhere and party for 2-3 days. If you see an actual NASCAR race, you didn't do it right ;)

haha, like basketball, the whole thing is decided in the last 2 minutes, so you don't have to watch the whole thing.
as far as an excuse for drinking, i have golfing, bowling and fishing ahead of nascar, but i recently found out some people do those things without drinking. weird!

Yes to all of the above. What gear to be in while entering turn, length of turn, length of straightaway, upcoming turns and straights, what side the entrance to the chicane is on, etc.

Its an amazing thing.

I would be dead.

What is nascar?

Answer:
WWF or WWE whichever you prefer to call it.

Wrasslin is way more entertaining.

At the request of a friend, I've gone to two races at Daytona.

We were ten rows up on the outside of a corner.
(A very stupid and dangerous place to sit)

The cars would roar by and you'd be warmer for five seconds. Trash and shit would blow all over.

Wait however long and it would happen again. This went on for an hour or two, then we went home.

I think Sam wet his pants every time they went by.

I could have been home both evenings knee deep in VJJ instead.

That's two days of my life I can't get back.

NASCAR exist because there are still plenty of autistic adults out there that find watching people make left turns for 500 miles entertaining. Also for people like me who just enjoy seeing the crashes.

If you need an idea of just what kind of people go to a nascar race go to a night race. I went to Bristol with a couple friends the crowd was tearing down the fence stealing any kind of banner or sign they could get people laid out either drunk or ko’d On the stands grass even on top of Rvs

The copilot is so busy reading his notes he doesnt have a chance to look up and see how what they're doing is totally fucking insane.

I think the "fans" are just trolling us. No way anyone actually likes Nascar

It used to be entertaining.

As far as skill level look at Pastrana. Badass athlete, rally racer, and he couldn't get a win. There is a great level of skill.

It has been boring as fuck since they changed the cars 15 years ago.

What changed? I last followed the WRC when Colin McRae (RIP) was tearing shit up in a Subaru WRX and then a Ford Focus.

NASCAR in it’s current form sucks. The calendar should be two speedway races per year maybe three, and then a whole bunch of road courses.

More decisions per lap, more difficulty, more exciting to watch.

Those kinda speeds on rural/woods roads are insane, even if they are "closed courses", but I can relate since I used to hear the same thing from non-racers when I raced 250-500mi. desert races in Ca. and Nv., and hit speeds of 70-90mph on big bore 2 & 4 stroke dirt bikes, thru the "puker bushes" and power line roads/washes back in the day (I ate and breathed that shit during that time in my life). NASCAR is pretty boring nowadays with too many rules and regulations and then add when the race is broken down into heats/relays(?), just makes it more confusing. Just stick your foot in it and race, damn it!! Mac

NASCAR died with Dale Earnhardt. They just don't know it yet. Small town dirt tracks are still alive for now. As far as skill, several Indy car, and Formula 1 drivers tried and failed.

How many NASCAR drivers have ever stepped out of their shallow pool to drive in any other disciplines?

When we say their driving takes no skill, we mean it takes a very narrow, specific set of skills that don't translate to anything else. Why do so many "road course" specialists appear for the few races outside the ovals?

If NASCAR drivers were so good, you'd see teams in at least sports car racing looking at them. But they don't.

How often have the ringers actually won? After 9 years, Montoya only had 2 wins. Franchitti had 0.

Nascar, not WRC.

They changed a lot of the things about the aerodynamics and the form factor of the cars in the early 00's. There is zero separation now, and the speedways are boring as fuck then they all wreck.

The fun nascar races were Bristol back in the 90's when they were still able to bump and bang on each other.

More road races, more short tracks, no bullshit penalties for banging each other around and they'll have fans again.

Or, pull the resitrictor plate races and let them run the full 900hp on daytona and talladega. See what the drivers can do when they don't just have the stand on the pedal for 5 hours.
