why is everything going to short action?

i still love my 7mm rem mag, but looks like short action is the predominant platform
any thoughts why?

Loss of sales due to more popular short action cartridges. Due to the advancement of more modern powders, somewhere performance in a shorter case.

And most of us are shooting for sport. If your hunting big game LA makes sense. If your gaming steel and paper why get a LA?

We're referring to non-magnum. Long action is still popular just not here. I use it for 25-06, 6.5x284, and .244 Remington. Set up the same as my short action .308 and 22-250. Has nothing to do with better powders coming out. No brakes were used for this public service announcement.

I think most people like myself are only able to stretch out 1000 yards, if that. I have a location 90 minutes from me that is 1000, and one 20 that’s only out to 200 yards. So I don’t see a need for a LA caliber. I want a 7saum but the 6.5CM works great for the distances I shoot

The '06 is still a major discipline for 1000 yard comps. No scopes. But you make a good point. Better bullets with smaller cartridges and great ballistics.

New sa chamberings are more efficient than in the past.

So take old LA and find newer LA chambering a d have even more fun.

And spend more money...

I'm not "going to" short actions, I've always had some. Same with long actions.

It's simple really. Because it's easier to cycle the bolt while staying in the glass on a short action versus a long action.
