Why No Factory Rem or Sav rifles in 260?

I can't for the life of me figure out why RTemington and Savage don't make Factory heavy barreled rifle sin 260 anymore considering the fact that this caliber is so popular now. Rem used to make the VLS in 260 with a 1/9" twist and Savage made the FP in 260 also. I don't get it...

Re: Why No Factory Rem or Sav rifles in 260?

I have wondered that myself. The only factory bolt rifles I know of being produced now are Rugers. From the lack of rifles being made in 260 I got the impression that they had lost alot of their popularity.

Ruger only makes the 260 in their ultralight or whatever they call it. If you ever see a VLS or 10FP in 260...they go for GOOD $$$. It can't cost them any more to make them, Savage already makes 6.5 bbls for their 6.5-284 F class rifles. I bet a PSS in 260 would sell like hotcakes.

Re: Why No Factory Rem or Sav rifles in 260?

I had to spend almost $1000 to get a 700 CDL LTD in 260. Not even exactly what I wanted but thats all thats available. Situation is that when the 260 came out, all the gun writers praised it but Remington and the magazines were also crazy pushing ultra magnums and short magnums so the 260 never got momentum. A great round for hunting and target/tactical. They must make more money per gun on the magnums. Tooling isnt a problem, they have it. At one time or another Remington made the 700 BDL,ADL,VLS,CDL and model 7 in 260. For some reason they choose not to promote it enough.

I am pretty sure that the local gun shop had a Savage in 260Rem...it was an F-class style rifle with a Lam stock and all SS heavy barreled.....big bolt knob and all....looked like a good price considering what it had.....I think the price was around $1k. I will look to see if I can find a pic or link for you.

Re: Why No Factory Rem or Sav rifles in 260?

Lotta guys shoot highpower with them, and there's a lot of custom barrels, which most target shooters use....IMHO it's not a hugely great hunting round but it's not bad either..

But a 308 is "POpular" as are those super magnums that everyone wastes money and shoulder muscles on..

Probably not as cost effective, not many Highpower shooters use factory barrels...

Just my onion..

Re: Why No Factory Rem or Sav rifles in 260?

...I have always wondered that myself...

...with the lack of readily available rifles and good ammo for the round, Remington seemed to be determined to keep it an obscurity...

...things seem to be changing though...there were a number of preimium loads available if you were willing to pay for them when I checked online...

I don't believe that for 1 second. Every time a 260 hunting or tactical riflr comes up on gunbroker or gunsamerica or othere sites for sale...a 260 sells for a fair amount more than most other standard calibers. Try to find any form of Rem 700 or M 7 for under $700. Many highpower and tactical shooters use the 260 and I know quite a few who wouuld buy one over a 308 for the same price if they were available. ...At least in my neck of the woods. Furthermore...if Remington produced more quality 260 loads...I believe the 260 rifles would be even more desired.

You're right. They see all the people that want them and pretty much all the gun companies have decided that they don't want to sell any of them or make any profit off selling them. Seriously guys stop with the concpiricy theorys already!
