This may be a dumb question with a simple answer buy for small calibers why does someone machine and sell bottom metal that uses AR magazines?

because most bolt rifles actions are set up to feed from the center line of the bolt, ARs feed from the sides, and most actions need to be machined for an AR mag to fit into the feed port

It wouldn't work without some serious mods to the feedlips of the mag. In an AR the 2 lower lugs of the bolt head acually pass between the the feedlips during the feed cycle. The bolt nose of your standard bolt will not do this.

You might want to check this out. I personally don't own a JAG Magazine conversion kit and don't have any experience with them but it is similar to what you're talking about.

mossberg's mvp take ar mags. from what I have read they have a special design bolt head that allows it to strip the rounds out properly.

The Mossberg setup is an exact copy of what we (Cyle Miller and myself) ginned up back in 2004/2005 while at Dakota arms.

The Dakota "Predator" (now called the varminter as the name infringed upon Jerry Stillers roost a bit too much) was the action we did this to.

The idea was to use Ar mags in a varmint bolt gun setup for light cartridges up to the 6mm PPC.

Worked great, but we never brought it to fruition because it was too "industrial" looking for a Dakota type rifle.

There's other ways to skin this cat and its been a pet project of mine (and others) for awhile now.

Someday maybe. . .

Modifying the magazine defeats the purpose as the intent is to offer a setup that'll work with any AR mag. The trick lies in the bolt design and the clearances needed to promote feeding. It can be done with a .700 dia. Bolt.

A guy had one next to me on the range the other day, he really liked it, no complaints.

I have a feeling this could have an impact on the market?

Also because us bolt gun guys don't like intermingling AR and bolt gun parts

Dont forget that the AR mags suck ass when it comes to OAL for high BC bullets.
