I want to know opinions or options for a nice tidy little break for my 6.5x47.

Recoil isnt much of an issue, but it is enough that I can not spot my shots inside 300 yards.

I see some guys running them on their 6.5x47, and want to know what to expect from wich type of break.

Also, my rifle is wearing a 28" Broughton barrel, and after shooting my first match, have come to the conclusion that my shit is way to long. What is the minimum lenght that anyone has ran on their 6.5L? I know I am going to cut it down, maybe down to 23"-24".

I am running a 123 Scenar right now at 2975, and is a real mild load in the gun. How much velocity loss am I looking at my lopping 4" of barrel off?

I'm interested in hearing others thoughts on this as well. My Brux 8.5 twist showed up today, and I was going to have it finished at 26 inches with no brake. I was recommended the ops-inc brake, for what it is worth, but I've no first hand experience with it.

I'm also going to be running the 123's, but with varget and Wolf primers.

I have a Holland QD brake on my 6.5X47 L, great brake, eliminates recoil. It is actually my daughters comp rifle. I also have a Defensive Edge brake on a 7RM and I think it is a step up from the Holland. You would be happy with either one.

On barrel length I wouldn't go below 24". Your probably looking at 20-30 fps per inch. Someone with QuickLoad could give you a better estimate.

Our little bastard will tame a 300 Ultra. Other than noise you might not even know your 6.5x47 went off.

Tell you what I'll do. I'll give you 50% off on the brake itself if you have us install it and write up your results.
I'll bet you the entire job that you'll spot your hits at 100 yards. If you can't I'll send all your money back.

my 10 lb 7wsm recoils much less with a harrels brake than my 14 lb 308 without one. i would certainly take jerad up on his offer though. i installed the harrels because it was not expensive and did not need to be indexed on the barrel.

1) You don't need a brake on a 6.5 to spot your shots.
2) If you just want one, well, that's another story. Have at it: maybe take Jered's offer, lie about not being able to see your hits and get all your money back.

3) Your 6.5 will still kick ass at 24".
4) But I say leave it alone unless you are having a specific problem related to barrel length. It balances almost perfectly for position work the way it is.
5) If it was mine, I'd cut it to 25", crown it at 90, and leave it alone.
