We got a very small batch of Wilcox RAID XE In the tan low power configuration. Pretty impressive unit. More info to come but I wanted to share some pics. We should have more units in stock over the next couple weeks.

There’s been screenshots folks are posting from spec sheets that seem more like lower power mode on the restricted units. Very interested in what the actual civi unit outputs are though.

I'm surprised its 2.5-3oz heavier than the NGAL. The MAWL doesn't need a tape switch so 30-60g of its excess weight is forgivable (I recognize the RAID and NGAL don't technically need tape switches but I suspect many users will run one). I wish I could find an NGAL under 5k.

Any update on this? Is it actually a 5mW IR pointer? How did they get it that high I’m wondering… If a lot of eye safe IR pointers are 0.7mW

Just received mine. Will update as I get some time behind it, but here it is compared to my original X. X has a green visible laser where the Xe is only red now (or so I have heard).

Nah. There are a few things on the “old” one I prefer over the Xe.

Its interesting/disappointing to me that the new one is that much heavier. That would be something (current gen to current gen) that the NGAL has as a real advantage on. When you're running a suppressor and a white light and a laser- shit gets heavy on the end of your SBR/carbine. To me- their laser output looks visually pretty much the same, even given on-paper mW differences.

The MAWL is really a non-starter to me with the weight alone, its like almost a mini-series suppressor worth of weight on the end of your gun. That and if you run it towards the muzzle of your SBR- you have to damn near sweep your hand across the muzzle to rotate the impeller switch between on/off and IR and Vis.

Well… I don’t have the CIV version, so performance may differ, but just spent time confirming on the FP version of the new Xe, the full power illuminator has a very obvious dimming of the illumination circle in the center “Zone-1”. The “old” X does *not* suffer from this relatively minor anomaly. I compared my X to two different Xe’s that I own, and confirmed remotely with two other users (4x Xe’s total) and all 4 seem to exhibit the same behavior, so Xe’s with 11/22-01/23 MFG dates perform identically.

The X illumination circle is almost perfectly even and uniform, where the Xe is non-uniform and my two Xe’s have a “halo” around the circle that is not present on the X.

So, at least in the current batch, the Xe illuminator isn’t as nice as the former unit it replaces. It’s still fully usable, and shouldn’t present much of a problem for most people, but if you’re planning on doing any nighttime ELR with a NV clipon, the uneven illumination of the Xe might be a problem. Stick with the X if that’s your bag, or a MAWL.
