Looking to get a set of silhouette targets for .22LR use only and was wondering if they would last over time or if I should invest in AR500. I tried searching but everything referencing AR500 had to do with high power stuff.

If A36 targets would last me several years for smallbore use than I am down with that. Just want some confirmation as to if they would be ok.

Would be buying from qualitytargets.com as that is who I have found. If there is a better option lmk.

Re: Will A36 Last?

A36 is basically just structural steel, "cheap" plate, I beams, Channels, etc. It's only requirement is tensile strength. It may harden from flame/laser cutting around the edges. I don't think it will stand up to extended use. As a machinist I have cut mountains of A36, It probobly consists of everything that any one ever threw away, from VW bumpers and Korean War mess kits and old deep freezes. For a little cheaper than AR500 you may want to look for AR400. Some one who has more fabrication experience may have other options also.

Yes. Make the targets 1/4" or more thick. To make them last, use .22LR.

A36 will hold up to 22lr all day long ! I've shot and shot A36 plates with rimfire with no problem. Just don't expect it to stand up to anything else. For something to handle everything else I suggest you take jeffy0630 advice and contact osuarchitect here on the hide . I've got two sets from him and they are tough !
