In this month's Handloader Magazine, Brian Pearce points out what some of you may have known all along; Several Hodgdon powders are "exactly the same thing" as specific Winchester powders.
Specifically,

H-110-------Same as-------296
HP-38-------Same as-------231
HS-6--------Same as-------540 (discontinued)
H-414-------Same as-------760
While I noticed that H-110 and 296 looked, metered and had the same min to max specs for my hot .45 Colt loads, I wasn't prepared to assume they were identical. Same with HP-38 and 231.
I always have liked H-414 and HS-6, nice to know if there is ever a shortage of one, there are exact alternatives.
