Gunsmithing Winchester Mod. 70 300 WSM, Long or Short Action?

I'm building a rifle for a friend. It's a Win. Mod 70 in 300 WSM. The POS stock the rifle came with is a plastic POS. It doesn't even have bottom metal, it has a molded in piece of plastic that looks like a bottom metal. He has a B&C stock for the build and I need to order him a bottom metal. I'm looking at the Williams, but do I want LA or SA?

Most likely a short action, but if you can take some measurements on the opening in the bottom of the reciever tube it should be clear.

If you can run a 3.4"+ long round through the receiver then it's a Long action.

If it caps out around 3.0" or less you have an SA.

+1 Should be a short action, I am not aware of Winchester building any WSM's on a long action.

The Williams bottom metal is a good piece but you will have to do some inletting for it to fit. Much better than the factory two piece though.

You are going to have to find out what the stock is inleted for. B&C inlets them for both 1 and 2 piece floorplates so you need to figure out which you have. Might be best to call them with the model number and they can tell you. You can get the parts for it here:

I have DBM for them.. The rcvr u have is Short action.
