This rifle initially started life as a Winchester Super Shadow .300 WSM. I worked on upgrading parts by myself, doing what I could, when I could. The biggest issue was that when I finished the bedding of the stock, it was less than stellar. So, after years of staring at me from the back of my safe, I got off my ass and started looking for a smith to do a professional job on it. Those that I contacted did not do work on Winchester 70's, so I thought that I had hit a dead end. Until, I saw US Handgunner's bolt work here on the Hide. I contacted him and had the bolt knob coversion done, with outstanding results. I discussed the work with Mark and he bit on the job, so I shipped off the barreled action and had the new stock drop shipped to him. A couple of weeks later, it arrived at my door. The fit and finish were spectacular. The bedding job was super tight and flawless. I could not have asked for better communication and performance and now hold Mark "Short Action Customs" Gordon in high regard, both personally and professionally.

I moved my NXS onto a EGW 20 moa rail and hit the range. It grouped substantially better, over the groups with my original stock work. It rocks with 155 Scenars, 168 Hornady AMAX & Berger 210 VLD-H's (all under 1" at 100 yards). Now, I can try to stretch it out to see what it's true potential is.

Thanks Mark!!!!!

Re: Winchester Model 70 - Project Done

Nice to see M70s still done up. I have a Shadow in 7mm RM that I've been messing with. With everything I've done to it t'll shoot under an inch with good ammo at 100, but starts to open up past 300. I've probably taken it as far as it will go with a sporter barrel and stiffened Black Shadow stock.

Nice thumbhole and I love the helical fluting.

That wood stock sure is refreshing.
I think that barrel maker got the rifling on the wrong side? Check the inside to see if it's fluted.

Real pretty rig. I'm jealous.

I got alot of knocks, initially, with going with the Boyd's wood stock, but it fits me well. It might not be everyones cup o' tea, but I like the feel of the wood stock. I have McRees, McMillan, HS Precision, and like them all, but the wood stock went well with this rig.
