Looking for a stock for a winchester model 70 LA similiar to bell and carlson tactical vertical grip (and similiar price).

I have a mod 70 in 7mm rem mag that I have only shot 9 times to zero the scope. It is a mid 90's era classic pre 64 action and never got around to using it. I was either looking at selling it or building a magnum target gun maybe switching to 300 win mag. But, i need a new stock to start with and can't find any.

only one i found was the B&C with the vented forearms. Not the tactical solide stock i am looking for.

Any help before I sell a like new gun (hate to do this) and build another rifle.

Re: Winchester Model 70 stock

I looked for a stock for LA winny for 4 months to no avail. I broke down and ordered a manners T3. Should be here in december. I'm glad I ended up ordering one and got exactly what I wanted. There are just not many tactical stocks inletted for LA winchester.

Re: Winchester Model 70 stock

i found the choate ultimate sniper stock, but not what I was looking for. The rest are just nice hunting stocks, which i may go with if I keep it. I was going to have this as an Elk rifle, but haven't gone yet.

I really like the action and the trigger, both feel very solid. More so then the newer savages or remingtons that I have played with.

I may keep the rifle and get build another shooter. The manner was more then I wanted to spend, i think

Those stocks are worth it though if you are planning on building a long range rig. I got a McMillan A4 from JW Precision a few months ago. John was a great guy to deal with, he also has good prices and he usually has them in stock to ship right away.

Re: Winchester Model 70 stock

Save yourself a lot of grief and remember you have a mid 90's long model 70 action. Action inlets are the same wheather it's a classic claw extractor model or a push feed. It is not a pre-64 action. Pre-64's are those actually made before 1964 and are different and have different guard screw spacing and trigger guard length.

Re: Winchester Model 70 stock

ok thanks, I started finding a few out there and I am growing on the varmint/stealh HS stocks.

Now really leaning towards just starting with a 308 action (cheaper to shoot) and so much more out there. This rifle is like new and should be able to get some good money out of it.

The bolt, action, and stock trigger feel so much better then the remington that it is hard to believe the remington following.

These model 70 actions have zero play in the bolt, no creep in the trigger, and are heavy solid pieces. The remingtons and savages I have felt all have bolts that feel like they weren't machined to standard and wobble giving some play.
