If I know my load information and wind value, how do I accurately calculate my hold off? I read once about standard deviations for specific calibers.....

Re: wind doping

there are a lot of answers you may get to do this. Are you wanting to use a ballistics program or do the math?

Re: wind doping

R X V / Constant = Correction

That's assuming full value wind.

Range is in 100 yards, 6=600, 7=700 etc.
V is wind velocity

The constant is for your load.

Example I shoot 168s at 2550 fps my constant would be 10

Lets say a 20 MPH wind at 6oo yards with my M1A and 168s

6 X 20 = 120

120 / 10 = 12 so I would correct for 12 MOA

You have to find the constant for your ammo specs.

Re: wind doping

Kraig, can you explain the constant? I have been using:
Inches at 1mph x wind speed/distance

I.e 168 AMAX at 2650 is 3" 1mph
at 600 yards so
3x10mph/6= 5 MOA Is this correct too

lol teaches me to pay attention.

Just think I use to be a trained observer.
