I'm curious, as I don't have much more money to put into a nicer stock at the moment, is there anything that I should consider doing to my Remington 700 adl varmint stock? Any modifying that can be done to make it better, or is it a decent stock how it is?

It's pretty bad, but you can do a few things to make it work as well as possible for the time being. The varmint model may be a little beefier than mine, but I've heard the same complaints for both stocks. Check to see if there is a pressure pad under the barrel at the end of the forearm. If so, that will definitely need to be sanded down when you bed the action, so the barrel will be floated. If you don't remove it and shoot off a bi-pod, the upward pressure will play hell on the barrel's harmonics.

I have an SPS-V and a Regular SPS (formerly ADL) stock. The varmint barrel was pretty well floated already from the factory, which I could slide 2 $1 bills from muzzle to action without obstruction. I had this stock bedded by a very competent gunsmtih and the bbl channel opened a bit. Noticeable improvement.
The ADL stock I can get 1 $1 bill through. I plan on bedding this one.
That's about all I'm willing to invest in a factory stock.
