I remember talking to Bill A., this was regarding the 6.5G mind you, but he mentioned the 6.5's don't lend well to subsonic use. I bet large capacity cases would have more problems. Even the .308 subs are problematic and have several solutions for how to load one. Remember, low powder charges in a case is just as, if not more dangerous, than over charging a case. Both can cause dangerous pressure spikes.
The twist rate is also proportional to the velocity of the round used and it's geometry, I can't be positive right now about all that, but the twist rate formula is on Wikipedia. It'll tell you the ideal twist rate for the particular round. Some like the .300BLK are averaged out but I think you'll find the twist rate optimal for one 6.5 bullet moving at x velocity vs. one moving at a slower velocity will be off a good deal. I could be wrong, I haven't ran those specific numbers but it's not hard to do.
IMO/E, the 6.5's are all about performance. Supersonic performance. For subsonic, the .300BLK pretty much rules the roost. 220gr. subs from a .300BLK have great BC too and tend to go farther and drop less than one would imagine. There's also the .338 Blackout or Whisper as well as other hard hitting dedicated subsonic rounds.
Just my $.02.
