is any one here shooting a WSM wild cat ?

Specifically a 358, 375 or 9.3mm

I am toying with the idea of a light weight short barrel heavy hitting stalking rifle (with a nitro pad !)

I know the 35 Sambar is capable of approximately 2850fps with a 225gr projectiles, I used to have a 358 Win that extra 300fps would really knock the wind out of a large deers sails

Interested what the 375 or 9.3 would do with a 250gr

Just got a msg from Bruce Bertram, he has correct head stamp brass in 358,375,416,450 WSM’s

The 375 with a light projectile, say a 250 Accubond would be interesting

Buddy of mine built a 338 wsm. Puts moose down, hard.

6.5 x 300 wsm. Only 143 gr. But accurate and bonded bullets have performed well on sheep, deer, and antelope.

I have a EDGE and Snipetac already, don’t want another 338

358 and 375 are what I am looking at

The 338’s I have are heavy rifles to shoot prone or off a bench

This rifle I am wanting to build will be a light weight rifle (with in reason) for stalking, to carry long distance and shoot off the shoulder, short barrel 20 or 22” and thick nitro pad

Mates, so don't have personal experience with it, but will find out data.

Yes I know who built it, but wasn't Swan. Swan doesn't have a reamer, but I can lend him mine if needed.

Are you building on a Long action or short action?

Thinking in 375 a 250gr SGK or a 260gr Accubond

Or In 358 a 225 SGK or Accubond

They are not long match projectiles, so should work in a short action I believe

Why not just go with an established 358 Win or 338 Federal?
I have owned a .358 win before, what I am proposing offers a solid 300fps advantage

I do wish I did not sell my .358 BLR though, was a handy rifle

338fed = Meh, or in Aussie yeah but nah, I am wanting a bit more gun

Not a wildcat but an off WSM.. I have an old custom Christensen (back when they reworked Rem 700 actions) in .325 WSM..
it’s nasty and I’ve yet to see anything tote it.. rifle’s super light and accurate.
Did I mention it’s nasty?
Just a suggestion.. though it’s hard to find ammo, you can find it as well as components

I knew something like this would be nasty at both ends, I don’t want a brake on it , but a 1.5” limbsaver nitro pad should calm it down at my end a little

The 325WSM I really wanted to go bigger

To build on a long action say a 300wm, do you think much work would need to be done to get it to feed correctly
I built a .300wsm on a long action that feeds properly.. I had to file on the feed rails a little but only towards the front.. it was on a .270 action and if I remember correctly you’d likely want to do that in lieu of a mag action.. the .270 needs to be filed only towards the front and rear stayed the same to allow the round to ascend a little later..

For the 375wsm, 18" barrel, 9 twist:

Ok so .375wsm ballistics in my old rifle:
270gr Speer SPBT, 64gr 2208, 2504ft/a
300gr Sierra Game king, 62gr 2208, 2440ft/s
285gr ACP copper hp 62gr 2208, 2421ft/s

Nothing for 250gr SGK or 260 AB
They are the two projectiles I am really looking at,

The light Woodlieghs PP’s as well hold interest

That must be old data, ACP’s are collectors items now, i still have a few hundred .22 cal

Best I got sorry.

The old Mark savage. Weird guy. Fuking ACP. He was on a winner, and screwed himself badly

Absolutely

Promised me fly in trips into his hunting blocks in the gulf country in his plane. Down the track he had no hunting blocks and no plane.

Glad I wasn’t one of the fellas that got screwed by him financially.

I did some testing of the early ACP’s for him
The 35’s were good projectiles
