Building a 300PRC and looking for a 24" 1:8 as that is what Hornady used for testing and I'd like the ability/higher likelihood to stabilize heavier bullets like the 230gr ATIP / 245 Berger. This will also have a suppressor on it so want to keep it at/under 24" but not give too much velocity. Looking specifically at Proof to save some weight as this could end up used on long hike hunts. Looking specifically for this barrel model. Everywhere I've checked it is not in stock and thought I'd post here before putting in an order and waiting 3mo with Proof. Anyone have one they want to sell or know where in stock by chance? Thanks!

1-9 will stabalize any 230 pill you throw at it. Even in the worst conditions. Keep your options open unless your ONLY shooting 250gr pills. Then the 8 may be suited for you.

If your only shooting 230s there is no reason for an 8.

Running the berger twist rate calculator with 230s, in a 9 twist, at sea level. Zero degrees outside, at 2800 FPS your more then stable enough. So that's the very worst conditions I could think of for a coastal hunt in AK or alike, at sea level, when its zero out.

No need to over spin them like crazy. 1.66 SG is plenty in those extreme conditions. The second pic is 50 degrees at 3000 elevation and your already into the 2s. Depending where you hunt, a 10 twist works well too.

A 9 twsit covers you in every way even with extreme cold and at sea level. Just food for thought before chasing an 8 twist..

Well we can probably close this down anyway. Proof replied to an inquiry and basically said I'd need to order it.

On the extra info, thanks I appreciate it. While I am looking to run 230 ATips I didn't want to top out there if possible. The Berger 245 Elite Hunter looks promising from the reading I've been doing as well. In a 1:9 the 245 would be marginal based on a load like unknown munitions sells which they recommend an 8 twist for the 245 and 230 as well. It is interesting I saw a label for the 245 Elite Hunter that said 1:8.75 but on their main site it says minimum 1:9. 1:9 is an option but thought I'd try to find a 1:8 first. Anyway, don't want to have a general discussion in the wrong place. I know there's an 800 page 300PRC thread I've read most of. Thanks!
