I don't have a x25 in front of me but the bolt face difference is marginal and I think can be fixed by tigging and cutting down. The .311 and .308 were both used in AK ammo, by different countries at different times. The x25 is supposed to be .308, but as with others it may be as much as .311. The main thing to recommend that round in the AK is the ammo goes for around $120 for 1200 wholesale. I know that the bore will work I was mainly concerned about the structural ramifications of rechambering a barrel Ie metal stresses as well as the sporter shoulder being too far back.
Thanks for all the replies, there is a lot of knowledge hanging around this site </div></div>
The 7.62x25 case head is ~.38" in diameter, the 30-06 is .473-.475 on your rifle.
That bolt is heat treated, if you refill the material by tigging it back in place you need to do the following:
Fill material in bolt face
Anneal bolt head
Machine new bolt face
Install new extractor/ejector
Reheat treat
Double check machining after re-heat treat.
This is assuming you're comfortable with reheat treating a bolt head on a rifle. I'm not.
Best bet would be to find a 223 action to work from, since the case heads are very similar.
The round is a pretty light hitter in the suppressed world with 110gr bullets, the performance of the round really shines with 85gr bullets hauling.
If you want to do this route, by all means, it's possible if you have a medium to heavy contoured barrel (because you're going to chop off everything but the neck of the chamber).
The cost involved is going to be prohibitive compared to just getting a 223 bolt face short action and a barrel blank.
It will be much easier to feed from a 223 action as well, you'll need ~1" of a spacer in the aft of the mag well as opposed to 2.5-3" of spacer.
A Savage model 12 would be the platform that I'd approach with this. Fun little projects like this are cool, don't get me wrong, it's just going to be expensive unless you're willing to do a lot of work yourself.
Actually, any Savage short action would do it, you need to have a 223 bolt face for it though.
Thinking about it a little more:
Savage with 223 bolt face
Get a repeater action with a blind mag box
Get CZ52 magazines
Make a block to hold the CZ52 mags in the factor BM, inlet the stock for the mags to stick through the bottom.
You now have a bolt action, repeating, DBM frankenrifle in 7.62x25
I have a pile of parts here to do something similar with DE 44 Mag magazines and an old k98 action. My dad wants to turn it into a bolt action, repeating 17" barreled rifle threaded for quiet work that can run ultra hot 44 mag loads or nice soft suppressed loads for plinking.
