Hi, Well that about covers it. My "rod" is a Hateca. Remmy .308 w/Shilen 1/10 #7. Using FGMM/175smk's. Ref. my "What about WW-748" thread.

I have had great luck with H-335 in .223. It meters just great in a Dillon. How has it, or did it, work for your .308? Loads?

Thx.

Respectfully,
LG

Re: WW-748 vs. H-335 in a .308

I would stick w/ 748 for the .308...............335 is fine for .223, not as good for .308.

Re: WW-748 vs. H-335 in a .308

I would stick to using ball powders at or near max and staying well away from light loads and reduced charges with them. That said, I don't use 748 because in my experience it gets unpredictable in high heat and when under the sun. If you're in CA keep your match loads in a cooler.

Graham,
Yep, unless it's a Alliant, or a Hogden RE/H series, or Varget.........most all are.
748 is fine, if it's kept out of the sun,(like most ammo should be), and at an even temp range as possible.

Re: WW-748 vs. H-335 in a .308

The 748 works well in my .308. My stick is the Rem PSS firing a 168 gr Sierra MK BTHP. It feels a little hotter than my similar loads with 4895. it is very accurate and a fine powder in my bolt gun.

I have used it also in .223 in a gas gun, AR type rifle. works relatively well and functions to cycle the action.

Re: WW-748 vs. H-335 in a .308

I've never tried 748 in the 308, but I have used '335. Had no problems working the cheap 165gr Sierra Game king to 2750 for a Sub-MOA 500yd plinking load for a GAP 308. The load was ~41.5 gr of '335.

Thanks for the info. so far.
I know what the books sez for 748 in .308 w/175smk's, but what have you folks found to be a good working load area(YES, I do live in the Mojave Desert)? I'm using FGMM brass f/l sized, CCI br's, in Hateca's match chamber(26" 1/10 bbl)

Hotter climes, are gonna be problematic, if you have no choice but to use 748/335, back your loads off, and your chamber is not what is the main culprit in the added velocity associated w/ custom tubes, bore dimensions are.............
Fed is almost equal to milSpec capacity, so, your limiting your loads to around 40.5/41/5grs........in the heat where you live.

Re: WW-748 vs. H-335 in a .308

TS, thx for "heads-up" on 748. I see that you too live in a "frying pan" in the summer also. Other than the PSI issue w/748 how did the groups hold up when it got hot outside(90+)?
It would be nice if I could get a good 748 load w/175smk's because it meters so well from my Dillion PM.......LOL

Re: WW-748 vs. H-335 in a .308

Is there a particular reason that you want to use ball powder in match loads?

It seems obvious to me that SMKs are too expensive for substandard powder. I do use ball powder for cheaper blasting loads, but for match loads?

Re: WW-748 vs. H-335 in a .308

DZ, why do you feel that 748 is "substandard powder"? I tell ya that with the groups I shot today with 748 I don't see one thing substandard about it.
I had rounds sitting in the sun(30 min. sunny @ 75*) and some sitting in the shade with no issues(held same POI)and all(so far)shots were all but touching each other, and nice round groups to boot. Plus my CBS was well within the first group.
More testing to be done for sure! For right now my best groups have been with 44.0gr, in a FGMM case(f/l size), w/175smk and a CCI br2 primer, 2.815 OAL. Yes this does "feel" hotter than my Varget load(44.0 grs. also)but NO pressure signs that I could see and bolt lift was normal.
Next range trip will be with the crono. just to check the #'s And I'll push the range back to 600+ yds, only shot to 300 today due to limited amount of ammo, to see how the groups open up(they ALWAYS do, with my 58 year old eyes)
