Gunsmithing Wyatts SA mid length PRC kit Mag capacity "issue"

Hello,

Does anyone know if there's a fix to gaining back that third round with the box extension kit. I just received my gun back from the gunsmith and i wasn't aware at the time of getting this mod done that I would have a two round mag now. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Can you please elaborate further, by providing pics, link to product, etc. If you started as a 308win (or any cartridge with a 0.473" bolt face) and opened it to 7 WSM, because you now have a magnum bolt face and cartridge, the round is bigger diameter and take up more space. Thats "normal" for conversions.

You however said you are using a wyatt extended box ? Can I get some info on what the gun was previously (if it wasn't 7wsm) and you actual stock and setup please ?

Hi there,

Its an M700 SA XCR gen 1 that was a 300WSM which I stripped down rechambered to 7mm wsm and put a Mcmillan HTG stock with a Proof research barrel. Being that the factory hinge box mag has an internal length of around 2.860" changing seating depths is limited or basically not happening. I put one of the wyatts outdoors PRC mag well extension kits and they extend the internal mag box to 3.250" and this kit still uses the factory SA floor plate. I'll put the link for the mag well below. I currently don't have the rifle as I had to send the rifle back to the gunsmith... that's a whole other discussion that would make your head hurt! lol

Ok, it's been a while since I've installed one. So this is from memory and may need someone to correct me.

The box is a touch wider and longer, and the follower is a touch flatter with a new shape to it. This is all good, as all parts are provided. They are a machine-in fit, so it must be done correctly to ensure everything fits.

It should not limit the round count at all. Going from a 308 type cass to a short magnum however will change it.

If it's been sent back to the 'smith, that's good. It should work. There's even a damn video on the Wyatt website for installing, even explaining the 308 issues.
