I have seen 2 issues while reloading, when using new winchester brass the brass seems to get stuck on the powder tube. This happens on both m 45 acp and 9mm luger. The second issue is seating primers in the 9mm luger, they seem to go in hard sometimes and easy others. In fact I had one "go off" on my today for the first time. Any sugestions?

Re: XL650 reloading issues

DIllon says new brass gets stuck on the powder funnel as does very clean brass. Don't quite understand why this is so but it happens to me as well with new brass and I have heard that polishing the end of the funnel will fix it. It has worked well for my 10mm, the only one I really have an issue with.

Call Dillon. A person will answer the phone who knows what he is talking about. He'll spend as much time as necessary to help you diagnose and fix your problem. I don't know that their product is much better than any others, but their customer service is outstanding.

I called a while back on my 650 which is 10 years old and I bought used. The Dillon guy not only helped me figure out the issue, he also sent me some free parts that had been upgraded since my machine was built.

Re: XL650 reloading issues

sounds like your shell plate is out of alignment.

Have you swapped calibers recently?

Switching between 9mm and 45 requires swapping the large and small primer feeds and there is a specific tool used to align the shellplate after each primer size swap.

Re: XL650 reloading issues

Could be the brass is military and has crimped primers. You will need to look and separate those and get the crimp out before priming. Probably easier to chuck them if you don't have too many of them in the mix.

Re: XL650 reloading issues

personnally, I hate the XL650 and much prefer the 1050 but of three friends that own the 650 and each had detonation , they were all using the federal primers. they switched to another brand and no more troubles in over 6 years. (we are all USPSA and steel shooters)
hope this helps.

Read your manual on primer size swap and then call Dillon. They'll send you the alignment tool for free.

Thats your problem.

Re: XL650 reloading issues

Also check the spring stay plate at the primer station. It must NOT be touching the brass. It needs to be about a biz card thickness away from your brass. Check to make sure your primer ram is centered in the shell plate hole. If its not your ram head could be slightly off. Dillon makes a ram head alignment tool and instruction come with the tool. Dillon will ship it out free of charge.
