Another thread was batting Y/T around so I ask.
I find myself watching it at times for info on things I'm interested in, but like some of the videos I see of my life's work, Resip Engines & EPG/SG (Electrical Power Generation & Switch Gear) there is a lot of B/S on there. Some of the B/S is detectable from the gate, some takes a few seconds/minutes to grasp they have no clue to what their trying to convince you they are an expert in/on.

I'm sure you have found this to be true in your area or work/experience as well. So the question is why is it the Y/T B/S'ers always have a bigger channel (followers/views) than those who know what their talking about? In talking to long time friends in the trades w/different back rounds, ie welding, machining, fab'ing they see the same thing? Is it because of presentation or what?

The other thing I find that pisses me off when I stumble on it is those who do reviews hawking shit that is just that, from my area of life's work. I'm sure you see that as well. Be interesting to have a sticky about Y/T'ers that are FOS & putting out bad info to folks who are looking for info about just getting started in XYZ.
I never signed on to Y/T & never will, but think some kind of off channel fed back might make some of them think before being an expert for clicks views & money, via total B/S content they spew.
Flame away,...

YT is a hoot. Probably half or more videos are staged, but funny to watch and comment on the BS. Sends the onto a tailspin. They boot me for 24 hours a couple times each week. I log into another account and CM.

When I’m banned I get a message that says continued inappropriate comments will earn a permanent ban. That’s my goal.

Money. Videos that attract more viewers and more likes earn more money through AdSense (sp?)

For example, the shit show that was the episode of Backfire with Mike the Marine was a chance for Jim to get traffic on his channel and generate income. I have a feeling he knew it would be hilarious. And it was. Both fans and dissidents increasing channel traffic and reactions. And Jim doesn't care in the slightest if you roast him and his channel. He is still making money.

And it was entertaining. Heck, Mike the Marine made me feel that I was competent, in comparison.

So, the same thing goes for channels of people claiming to be experts in a field of that matches your own but they are clearly not presenting clear information that is correct. But they get the bigger traffic because they make it "entertaining."

Even some of my fields of expertise, I might sound dry and boring and most times, especially when dealing with homeowners, I am talking over their heads with technical language. They are not stupid, just not skilled or educated in the skill set that I have.

Unboxing videos are retarded… 20 minutes
To open a fucking box to get eyeballs and clicks.

90 percent of YouTube is crap. 10 percent is solid gold! So many great lectures and history pieces…. So much schlock.

The trick with YouTube is to create an account, and start watching the things you enjoy. The algorithm will feed you suggestions, and you'll quickly see all the stupid disappear.

At this point my feed only recommends a handful of a new channels every so often. It never recommends anyone I find annoying. If I don't like a channel I can always block that channel and I'll never see it again.

I find the people that hate YouTube are the ones who don't understand it and still watch cable. Some of you will never change, which is fine. But, there's a reason YouTube has more viewers than any other media by far.
I have seen plenty of stupid said and done on TV. YouTube isn't special there.

I almost only watch YouTube exclusively. There is more content there that interests me than any other streaming service. I don’t watch tv at all…like 0%, not even local news anymore. I pay for a YT premium account. I control what i see and there are tons of really good channels on there. Yeah, there’s garbage too, but it’s easy to filter the chaff for the wheat.
Guns, history, science, music, engineering etc. It’s all there. Some of the channels are much much better than anything put together by Hollywood etc.

A lot of the dumb shit on YT is made to feed some me confirmation bias- whatever that bias may be. Those most susceptible to confirmation bias tend to be voracious consumers of this media. The genre of “alternative history” is a good example of this. Lots of content creators are playing to this phenomena and “giving people what they want.”

I think Youtube is great. It has censorship and woke issues, but if you sign up, they tweak the videos to suit you.

Id like to consider myself a master of my trade after 28 years, but I still find a shit ton of useful info.

Information of anything is changing daily. What is correct and fact today will be old, dated, and incorrect in 10-20 years. That is anything and everything you learn.

There are a lot of talented people, Youtube is a great platform for them to shine. I dont use the internet for social networking, I use it for information and entertainment. Youtube is fantastic for both.

I wish Musk owned Youtube!

Honestly, I do my best not to watch YT while logged in. I think half the stuff that pops up is all AI anyway. Only if I want to make a comment on something will I log in, and then log out quickly.

It's funny. I've learned how to navigate around YT and avoid things I don't want to see, simply by just not falling for the click bait. One often sees those AI videos where people are sick an you see their bodies ravaged with all these wounds.welts./holes, etc:. I stopped that quickly by not clicking on them anymore. What has appeared lately are all these Christian/Religious videos, many of which take quotes from the Bible and try to interpret them, etc. (eg. "What happens immediately after you die, etc.", or "Burial vs Cremation" and will cremated people enter Heaven and survive the second coming, etc.?)... I do make sure they quote the Bible accurately, but whether or not their full story holds water requires more thought.

It's also funny that my 2A pop ups have been disappearing as well. But I remember the channels and get back to them quickly. I want to keep tabs on "SCOTUS handling Snope vs. Brown, etc.). We'll find out tomorrow if it was re-listed again for the umpteenth time. One would think they'd have denied cert by now if that was their intention. But I'm wondering now if they're waiting until the 2A community loses focus on it (i.e. "out of sight .. out of mind") before they deny cert in order to minimize the impact/fallout. Or, on the positive side, they could be waiting to hear it next year. Not sure.

Anyway, except for technical videos on computers, etc., I take what I see on there with a grain of salt. How many click bait videos have I seen where they claim certain celebrities have died when they're totally alive, still? How stupid do they think we are? If they ain't dead on IMDB or Wikipedia (or Newsmax), then they ain't dead!

I've come to the conclusion that YT is the 21st century version of the National Enquirer or all those other rags that you see when standing in line at the grocery store. SO much content but what is factual and accurate and what is not?

I gotta' admit I'm a YT fanatic. But I don't need to tell you guys that a viewer has got to take a lot of it with a grain or two of salt. I find myself watching a lot of science stuff - usually about time and the size of the universe. I will NEVER understand most of what I watch. And mathematics videos, whoa I usually develop a nose bleed trying to understand all of that. Typically, I'll get tired of the frustration of feeling too stupid to understand what I'm watching. Then I turn on a nice travel video and go brain dead.

The “old” documentaries are amazing… you can watch all of Jacques Cousteau. And Wild Kingdom. victory at Sea. Lots of great old BBC stuff (the original tinker, tailor, soldier, spy is great!)

But so much schlock and the commercials are beyond annoying. But I refuse to pay for commercial Free because I won’t enrich Google evil scum.

So there ya go!

Some golden info on YT. Some absolute garbage on YT.

It is the internet. Lots of eggspurts on the internet. Lots of attention whores on the internet.
I have started to make my own youtube channel a couple times now. I have decided it would be a horrible idea. Mostly because no matter what you post, one group of people will love it, one group will seek to doxx and destroy you.
Some of my favorite, most informative, truth based channels, have scads of people who seek to destroy and deplatform them.
The whole thing is about 50% cunt farm.
