David Gilmour. Just finished watching him do a live show in Gdansk. Just fucking tears your soul out with every note. Nothing wasted. I'd give a nut to have a speck of that talent.

Re: Your Favorite Guitarist and why

oh man, too hard to limit it to one, here are some of my favorites
Kirk Hammett
Eric Clapton
Randy Rhodes
Dimebag Darrell
Tonny Iommi
Zak Wylde
Slash

Re: Your Favorite Guitarist and why

a buddy out of phoenix az. his name is kevin dye the band is YEAR OF THE MOTH. they friggin rock.check them out on you tube guys.

Re: Your Favorite Guitarist and why

I really dig Jack White. I hated the White Stripes until I understood what they were going for. After seeing "it might get loud", I liked Jack even more, think Jimmy Page while being great hasnt really progressed himself, and I think the edge needs to get the hell away from his technophile ways.

Montoya really was the greastest in classical

Yngvie played mostly take offs on JS Bach.

Lets not forget:
Jerry"Captain Trips" Garcia
Jorma Kaukonen, the original lead for Jefferson Airplane
John McLaughlin/Al DiMieola/Paco DeLucia
John Cippolina, lead for Quicksilver Messenger Service
Chet"the fret" Atkins
Larry Coryell

But of course the greatest of all (and CennisW beat me to it) James Marshall Hendrix

why Hendrix? He didnt just play the guitar, he turned it into a living thing, a true extension of himself, a weapon that shot notes like a rifle shoots bullets....Machine gun, Hey Joe, Purple Haze, the Star Spangled Banner, All Along the watchtower, Voodoo Chile, foxey lady, Little Wing, Fire, to name a few.

Nobody, before or since, did what hendrix did with an axe.

Never heard of Dufour before this...he plays sweet. If you like his work try the Canadian Bruce Cockburn's early album Circles in the Stream, especially the cut Deer dancing Around a Broken Mirror.

Not a really good rendition as the other guy kind of rets in Bruces way

Re: Your Favorite Guitarist and why

Noone made a better sound track for riding in a Herc or Chithook, than Guns and Roses. So, 1 for Slash.

Re: Your Favorite Guitarist and why

I think David Gilmour is my top dog.

Followed by Eric Johnson, Eddy VanHalen, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Pete Townshend.

For Bass I dig John Entwistle as the master followed by Chris Squire.
