Re: Your opinion about...

good rifle for the money. Upgrades to consider when cash flow allows it:

McMillan, Manners, or Bell and Carlson stock
Probably upgrade the trigger.
Wouldn't hurt to have a capable gunsmith square the action and lap the lugs.

Other than that, put good glass on it and you have a great rifle.

Re: Your opinion about...

I don't have any experience with the .223 version of the SPS Tac, but my fiance has a .308 SPS Tac and I really like it. The factory stock is kind of floppy, and while it's free floated when you look at it, as soon as you put weight on it, ti will touch the barrel. The X mark trigger has a bad reputation, so I'd do some reading around here for advice on that. My fiance's rifle shoots great with Fed GMM, I haven't even started working up a load for it. Her best group @ 100 yards so far is .540" CTC for 5 shots. She can't do that every time, but it's definitely a sub-MOA rifle. All in all, it's a great value.

Re: Your opinion about...

Watch for the twist rate. Remy ususally has slower twist rate so stabilizing heavy bullet may be difficult. Other than that, it's a good choice because of abundant after market products for up grade. I have a Tikka T3. Great rifle, but difficult to find up grades.

Re: Your opinion about...

My cousin, who is a gun smith bought one for a project gun. The stock seems way to flimsy, touches the barrel when you use a bipod. Trigger is ok, stays consistent as long as you don't go too light. He said that he's never seen an action so sloppy since he graduated from college.

BUT...

The rifle will still put the cheap PMC ammo well under an inch at 100 yards and will hold MOA out to 300 as is.

Makes a good rifle that will serve you well bone stock, and will only get better when you have time and cash to upgrade.

I have an opportunity to buy them new for $500...but in .308. Is this a good deal.

Oh and I agree these will serve you well as a stock gun.</div></div>

$500 for a new one is a great price.
