Youth stock for Savage MK II?

So my training rig is a 22lr Savage MKII BTV and it works fine. Not my favorite but fine. I run a SWFA SS 20x42 on it (but I'd like to trade that at some point for a 10x42 since 20x is too much for LR training at 50-100 yards).

I haven't taken the stock off at all yet but since my eldest daughter (8) is asking to go to the range with me I'm looking for a youth stock suitable for a smaller-build girl. Pink would be ideal. Any recommendations?

Also, should I expect the zero to shift much changing stocks on this model? Current stock is not bedded and the new one will not be either.

I'll get her a nice 10/22 once she learns to shoot and has safety rules down pat but for now this is what she will be using.

Re: Youth stock for Savage MK II?

You may want to try and find a MK II FV stock. It is just a plain jane low end stock. My granddaughter shoots fine with hers and she is small framed. The grandson has the same stock and although a tad larger in size it is fine for him. There are not alot of choices out there for the MK II.

There is alot of of fore end flex in the FV. So be aware. There will be a noticeable change in accuracy by using the FV stock.

Thanks. So could I expect to put this stock on, have it not quite as accurate as the thumbhole version, put the TH back on and return to zero? I know the best option is to bed it but it's not in the budget.

What? I would highly doubt it would return to zero since you're pissing with action screws, maybe if you use a torque wrench but still...

Bedding is like $20. Get a can of shoe polish, some screws and some Devcon/Marine Tex. Oh and maybe a thing of Play-doh

Keeping it simple; find someone who's got an extra MKII wooden stock left over from a stock upgrade, and take it off their hands.

Break out the saw, cut the butt end down to a more appropriate LOP (and take off an extra 1/2" to 1"), then put on a Limbsaver slip-on recoil pad to provide a finished appearance.

Hang onto the original stock for when the small one becomes a big one.

Don't sweat the small details, this isn't a benchrest world record project.

That's a good idea! I've been fooling with plastic-ish stocks for so long I just completely overlooked the fact that a wood stock is not hollow. My old CO used to call that a BFO:

Blinding Flash of the Obvious.

Re: Youth stock for Savage MK II?

I just got a MII FV-SR and it came with a very small stock. I am also using this to start out my little girls and it fits them just fine. It does not work well at all however if you plan on using a scope.
