After comparing Vortex razor spotter to ZEN ED2 spotter for a couple of weeks, I decided to keep the ZEN ED2. Both are superior glasses. I couldn't find fauly with either glass. So eventually the price settles the dilemma( ZEN has a $200 coupon on their site).

I noticed that their 30x EP are identical

Zen 30X: http://www.zen-ray.com/shop/spottingscopes/zenspotter82-30x-eyepiece.html

But I really want to get is the Razor 30x with reticle.

Now I am kicking myself for not trying to swap the EPs to see if they fit when I have both spotters back then. Has anyone tried to fit the Vortex 30x EP on the ZEN ED2 spotter?

I got a shipment notice from SWFA on Tuesday for the vortex milling reticle. It's destined for my ED2. I'll let you know how it goes, but as best I could look at it online, it looks identical.

It fits perfect. It's too dark to see outside right now, but I could focus on my garage door. I'll pull it outside tomorrow.

Also, even the detent locks it in place. The only problem is that the reticle will only really work with the body upright, you can't rotate the lock ring that holds it to the tripod mount.

That's the problem with Eyepieces with "static" reticles. Without the ability to rotate the reticle within the Eyepiece, as soon as the Scope Body is rotated away from the 12:00 position the reticle is no longer square with the target area. Off-axis orientation of the reticle makes accurate dimension estimation and impact calls more difficult. However, because the Eyepiece of a straight spotting scope is on the same axis as the Scope Body, sometimes the Scope Body can be rotated within it's Collar to keep the reticle square with the target area.

Angled spotting scopes are a different story. The Eyepieces' on angled scope bodies are offset 45 degrees so <span style="font-style: italic">unless the reticle can be rotated within the Eyepiece</span> there's no way to re-orient the reticle to be square with the target area. The only Eyepieces that I know of that feature rotating MIL reticles are the Optolyth 30X and 45X WAs'. That's one reason why when you posted your <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">"ranging reticle and rotating body"</span></span> thread and asked:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: pdice</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Does anyone have experience with a ranging reticle like the one from vortex and a spotting scope that rotates? ...and also stated that you were planning on using a 45 degree (angled) spotting scope off of the 12:00 position I recommended the <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Optolyth S80 HD Compact</span></span> to you and anyone else interested a spotting scope with a MIL reticle Eyepiece option. My Optolyth S80 HD Compact has superb image quality, awesome color rendition, great clarity, and is rock solid. For those of you who haven't read my <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Optolyth S80 HD Compact</span></span> thread it's a good read.

This is great. I know they look similar. Didn't realize that they are compatible down to that level of detail

It's kinda hard to tell, but that is it in the zen-ray host.

Can someone recommend a tripod solution for my ZEN ED2 spotter. It looks like it can match to Manfrotto tripod. But I am not sure which head to go with.

I just bought a ZEN ED2 spotter. I am also interested in a good table-top tripod solution for the rifle range as well as the field for my ZEN ED2 spotter.

Does anyone have a good table-top tripod they use and could recommend?

Thanks!
