Zen-Ray ED2 20-60x82

I've seen some very positive reviews on the Zen-Ray ED2 82mm spotter, claiming it is "nipping at the heels" of the alpha spotters (Leica, Swaro, etc.) although I have no personal experience with it. Read about it on birding forums, some of those guys are nuts about optics.

That said, spotting hits on shoot 'n see targets at 600 yards with even the best spotters made (Kowa Prominar 88 or Swaro 95 modular) might work under the best conditions, but it will be far from reliable.

You need a target camera system to reliably spot at that distance and beyond. I like the system from targetcameras.net; a complete system that uses RF, not Wifi, to operate up to several thousand yards. When I do finally break down and buy a target camera, that's what I'll be buying.

Cameraland NY is blowing out their ZR ED2s for $750 shipped right now if you are determined to buy one. That's really cheap.

Joe, thank you for the reply. The cameraland sale is what got my attention. However i since realized this is the version without HD glass.

I guess at this point I am shopping around. currently looking at this:

Swarovski 20-60X80 AT80 Spotting Scope DEMO-C

Do you know how far one can expect to see when using shoot and see targets? 400 yards?

thanks for the help

This is the model that everyone's been raving about.
I haven't seen any reviews of the HD Prime.

That Swaro is not an HD model, either.

If you want to be sure about what you're getting, watch for a used Razor HD 85.

Except in bad mirage I can spot bullet holes in white targets at 400, and sometimes out to 500.

Hey I saw this and couldn't help but post. Whenever you see "ED" the means Extra low Dispersion glass which is HD. The ZR ED2 has the APO triplet and two of the lenses are ED/HD glass. The ZR Prime HD is just another name for the new scope. Same glass, I actually asked Charles from ZR and he said the only difference in the two scopes is some upgraded prism coatings, so its a little brighter. and a new design on the base plate. Buy a Zen! They are awesome!
