Rifle Scopes Zero comp 527 starting elevation?

Hi there,

First time poster and hoping to get some feedback.

Just picked up a MPA production rifle and put on a zero comp 527 (Spuhr mount). This is my first foray into a PRS style rifle. What was kind of weird was that I had to dial up almost 14mils of elevation to get a 100 yd zero with 140gr bullet. Given that the scope has 35 mils total elevation, it doesn't really mean anything until we get close to a mile, but I'm taking a class in October to 1000 yds and if something happens to be wrong with the scope, I'd rather deal with it now.

I want to think that I had heard about this before and another shooter on the range said it wasn't a big deal, but double checking.

Thanks

If you wanna utilize all the elev dial. You have to compensate it with your base or mount cant..

I spoke at length with Jeff Huber of ZC a few weeks back, might have been months, it's been a long wait. He was very gracious to take the time out of a busy day to talk about their scopes and what goes into making them. He recommended I go with 40 moa total base/mount cant to take advantage of more elevation and optimize optical center at distance. My 527 should be here Monday and it will be going on my Impact build. I will let you know how it goes.

Your new scope probably can’t with the erector bottomed out. I just received a new TT and it’s the same.
Perhaps during the final check they run the turrets end to end to make sure they work correctly, but don't necessarily recenter. I have always found center prior to boresighting so that I can calculate how many clicks from center my 100 yd zero is. One more piece of data to keep logged.

All three zco I’ve have pullled directly out the box were bottomed out with the full amount of adjustment.

Not weird at all. Some optics come in box in the middle and others at the bottom.

I went with a 6mil (20MOAish) Spuhr mount w/ my Impact (built in 20MOA) to try and maximize available elevation with the ZCO 5-27. Should be here this week (I hope) and will let you know how it goes.

I like it like that when scopes are new. I can zero it without any tools. Just dial up to 12-15 mils or wherever and shoot the thing. My Steiner, Minox, TT, all were, and I bet the ZCO coming Tuesday will be also. Oh man I'm excited!!
