I don’t normally get involved in surveys or “whadaya think “ questions, but here’s what I have. AIAT dropped into an ATX chassis and I need to replace my 30 year old Harris. Probably a Ckye or TBAC bipod, but I’m thinking about keeping the relic for a while longer and jumping into a tripod. Shoot on the farm for predators and such, no matches as of yet. Just another new guy

Hello everyone. Been lurking on and off for a long time. My background is mostly pistol and a little AR but recently bought a Tikka Tac a1 in 6.5. Local range here in SoCal “only” goes out to 875 yards but I’m having fun with it. Watched my first PRS match earlier this month and that only solidified my desire to get some formal training!

The first pic, I was in the middle of mounting the scope. The groups were literally the first groups out of this rifle while I was attempting to zero it. Best groups of my life😁

Beginner trying to learn to shoot

Hi guys and especially girls!

Long story short, I tumbled across this site every now and then when googling about shooting so I decided it's a good idea to create a profile and start posting. I'm turning 30 in a few years and bought my first rifle, or actually rifles, last autumn and since then I've been trying to hit better...

About my background: I've been trying to become a hunter for years, but the only places where I have been able to hunt have been far away. Also, during my studies, the time and money were more than often needed for something more important, such as beer or books. During the past two years I've managed to gain just a little bit of hunting experience, and I've shot my first birds (with a shotgun). But the shotgun shooting isn't why I registered here.

Last autumn I suddenly, for the first time in my life, had some money to spend on a rifle. I bought a used Tikka M65 in .30-06 which happened to be for sale nearby. For cheaper and more silent practice I also bought a rimfire and ended up buying a cheap Russian TOZ with a cheap scope and a silencer. I also happened to come together with a cheap (if you can say that) Zeiss Classic 3-12 x 56, which I bought and bolted on top of my Tikka rifle. These rifles have never been used in hunting yet, but it's a matter of months before that will happen. The main game to be hunted is, which might seem a bit odd, are moose and birds. Yeah, they aren't very similar, but these are the two I can hunt where I live. Both of these will be mostly shot with the .30-06 because of the laws we have here (.22LR is not legal for most of the birds I'm looking for). The moose hunting demands for abilities to shoot a moving target fast, and bird hunting is closer to long distance sniping. I'd like to become a lot better in both, but probably because of some mental problems being able to shoot long distances seems to be more important for my self esteem :D I just want be able to hit a coin in 100 meters more often than my friends, even if that's obsolete.

As most of you have already probably noticed, my native language isn't English. It doesn't actually matter where I'm from, but I'll give you a hint: the city where I come from happens to be the hometown of a quite known gun manufacturer also known for one of the best sniper rifles in the world.

The reason why I created a profile is that in my other hobbies and topics I've interested in I've found that discussion forums are a great source for knowledge and the best way to get it and give it back is to be active in the discussions. I want to become a better shooter, and the best way seems to be shooting, the second best way seems to be dry practicing, and the third best is to discuss with people smarter than myself.

As I said, I'm a beginner, and most of my problems, questions and solutions will be those beginners are struggling with. The last time I went to the range and shot 8 groups of 3 shots, the average group of three shots at 100 metres was around 40 mm (1.4 MOA) and I think me and my gun should be able to do better. In this topic I try to raise discussion about what should be done to make it better. With my rimfire I'm probably able to shoot 19 shotgun shells out of 20 from 50 meters away. My best groups of five with the rimfire has been 7 mm from center to center and the best group of three with my centerfire rifle was 25 mm. The average with both guns is more than 1 MoA but every now and then I do better than that, mostly with the rimfire.

My current set-up is as follows:
-Tikka M65 .30-06, hunting stock, thin barrel, less than 300 shots fired through the barrel
-Zeiss Classic 3-12 x 56
-Quality bases
-Cheap but solid bipod
-Sand bag to be used below the gun stock
-Factory ammunition

When I'm going to the range next time, the following things will change:
-The bipod is not going to rest on concrete but on a softer pad to reduce the effect of recoil
-I'm going to build a temporary cheek rest from duct tape and sleeping pad. I've been shooting without any kind of cheek weld and from what I tried in my living room, even a folded T-shirt between the cheek and stock makes a huge difference. A hunting stock designed for iron sights and a 56 mm scope isn't a perfect combination.
-I'm going to let the barrel cool down for a while between the shots. Now I've been firing 3-5 shots at intervals of about 10-20 seconds which might cause weird things with thin barreled guns if I'm right. I'm not in hurry, so why hurry?
-Concentrate better in the trigger action, place my palm the same way each shot and concentrate on placing my finger on the trigger more consistently.

From practicing and testing my prone position in the living room I'd say it's difficult to get the stock firmly on your shoulder when you're in prone position. When standing it's not a problem as the rifle is mostly designed for shooting while standing, but I guess there's a reason why sniper rifles look the way they do... It seems the stock could be longer, the cheek pad should be way higher and the wrist should be in a more vertical position to get a firm stance.

I'm not trying to make my gun into a sniper rifle, and definitely not trying to change it into a benchrest gun. I'm trying to make myself a better shooter with better abilities in killing the game and not wounding it. I want to be able to trust myself and my guns when I must hit. Plus I want to shoot tighter groups than most of my friends :D

Oh yeah, I also took a two day course about sniping. The course didn't cover too much about the shooting technique but was merely about ballistics, which of course was also useful. At least now I know it's not important how tight groups a sniper shoots from 100 meters, because a good shooter can be a terrible sniper if that tight group is not where it should be when shooting from longer distances.

I try to keep this post alive and update what I learn, think and realize.

Lazy Susan

Was downtown with some ppl and ended up saying the phrase"Lazy Susan" (talking about how to turn a car around: it'd be nice if we had a....but for a car).

I was just pummeled with ppl saying Im sexist and eventually racist and that's when I was like hold the fuck up racist?!

So I folded and left let them think they were all that n shit. typed it into Google and this comes up:
"It's a reference to the servants being lazy so they need a device to easily pass dishes around the table."

Does anybody see the fatal flaw here????
-----
Why would the [master] allow a [servant] to not serve each guest individually? If it were allowed wouldn't that not be their servant then? If that's how everybody wants to think the term lazy Susan came around fine I got the backstory too -

Susan was an amazing servant and worked everyday till death for [master]. One day after Susans death, [master buys this new circular object and places it on the table. Wife says oh it's like Susan was here again it's just so easy and convenient! [master] says "yes I call it the Lazy Susan"

Norotos Lo-Sto helmet mount IN STOCK and ready for immediate shipment-[/size=4]
No reason to wait 4 months for a lesser mount someplace else!!
Norotos Lo Sto mount with bayonet AND dovetail

Norotos Lo-Sto Helmet mount, force to overcome model that will come with BOTH dovetail and horn (bayonet) plates.

What do you need to helmet mount a PVS14? See article at link below-

Helmet mounting article

Once again, this is the easier to use FORCE TO OVERCOME model.

Now you can buy ONE mount that will grow with you as your NV goes.

Usually people buy a PVS14 as their first night vision device and later buy a dual tube set or dual bridge 2 PVS14s.

Because the PVS14 J arm is a horn also known as "bayonet" socket and dual tube sets and dual bridge platforms take a "dovetail" socket, a user ends up buying multiple different mounts and has to keep track of which mount for which device, etc.

IMG_0789_1_-2740496.jpg

With the Lo Sto mount You can easily change the bracket from a dovetail to a horn (bayonet) setup. Hence, you can buy ONE mount that you can use for ANY style socket with a quick change of the plate which is easily done, quickly without tools. Less expensive and more versatile than a G24 mount.

The Lo-Sto Helmet mount force to overcome is designed to meet a critical demand for a lightweight and compact mounting solution- weighing only 4.8 oz. which projecting a mere 2.35" when folded. Compact and lightweight while perserving the Norotos standard for quality-engineered excellence. The Lo-Sto displays extended rugged field use while providing a mechanical advantage through manufactured precision.

The Lo-Sto's NVG center of gravity and ergonomic wearability maximizes user comfort and extended application. Single handed easy operating tacticle differentials further heighten comfort enriching safety while maintaining custom fit adaptability, include glide rite infinitely adjustable vertical, tilt and fore/aft levers.

With the Norotos Anti-Wobble Quick-Change Adapters Lo-Sto allows the availability of rapid transfer between HORN and DOVETAIL style NVGs, permitting increased adaptability while retaining peak Anti-Wobble stability. Force-to-Overcome deploy/stow release ensures safe and firm user pressure activation for NVG flip-up/flip-down.

Engineered elegance and manufactured precision unite to reveal the most advanced night vision helmet mount available. The Lo-Sto delivers an unparalleled combination of lightweight minimal silhouette capable of enduring through the most demanding field conditions, maintaining safe and easy operational differentials, while becoming the pinnacle of comfort and Anti-Wobble stability.

Ergonomically Optimized Vertical, Tilt, and Fore/Aft-Eye-Relief Adjustment Levers for a custom-fit user experience
Helmet Mount Release Button allows quick one-handed release from Helmet Bracket or Shroud
Force-to-Overcome Deploy/Stow Release enables single-handed decisive user pressure flip-up/flip-down
Low Stow minimal visual aspect in stow position
Horn & Dovetail NVG Interchangeability with dual sockets for quick-change conversion
Universal NVG Compatible for PVS-7B/D, PVS-14, PVS-7A/7C, PVS-15, PVS-18, PVS-21, & PVS-31
Glide-Rite Infinitely Adjustable in both vertical and horizontal directions
Reduced Weight & Enhanced NVG Center of Gravity prevents user fatigue allowing long-term ergonomic wearability
Auto Shut-Off when NVG in stow position or removed from mount
Durable Helmet Mount Surface Finishes withstand extreme environmental and field conditions
Safe & Easy Operational Tactile Differentials on operating levers, knobs, and buttons
Normally in stock- usually noted at the top of the page, or 3-6 weeks for new shipments.

One more time because 1 guy missed this- THIS IS THE EASIER TO USE FORCE TO OVERCOME MODEL. Which means all you have to do is push the mount up to get it to go back on the helmet, no release button to try to find in the dark, just push the mount and NODs up to get them out of the way.

NOTE- the instruction card that Norotos send with these that shows how to adjust the mount also shows the "breakaway" version of this mount. As we have noted 4 times in this item description, the mount you are ordering here it the easier to use FORCE TO OVERCOME model and we do not sell the push button release model!

Note- in order to Helmet mount a PVS14 you need a couple things-

1. Helmet with shroud like our Ops Core FAST bump helmet (see related items)

2. Helmet mount like this Norotos Lo Sto mount

3. J arm for the PVS14, like a standard military J arm or the AX PRO articulating arm (see related items). We HIGHLY recommend ditching the US GI military J arm and going with an AX PRO dovetail arm for more features and better lock up.

On dual tube sets like the Katana you may find that you need to remove the bayonet interface which sits behind the dovetail interface to allow for more adjustment room if need be.

AX14-PRO Articulating Featherweight NV mount for PVS14[/size=4]

This is the NEW Noisefighters AX-14 PRO arm. IN STOCK NOW!

Our toughest and most versatile mounting arm for the PVS-14. Less than half the weight and significantly more stiff than a milspec J-Arm, with our proprietary rotating knuckle that provides a tight stow against the helmet and also allows the monocular to be temporarily swung away from the eye: the AX14-PRO delivers a rearward sweep for greater helmet compatibility, multiple anti-rotation features for improved rigidity, reinforced joints with stainless steel washers for smoother movement, and it is also our first maritime-rated arm, with genuine 316 stainless steel and mil spec anodized aluminum hardware. An excellent upgrade for single night vision monocular users. Requires a dovetail style helmet mount. Like our Norotos Lo Sto mount -see related items on right.

What all do you need to helmet mount a PVS14? 1. Helmet with shroud. 2. Helmet mount like the Norotos Lo sto mount. 3. Swing arm like the AX PRO here 4. PVS14 You will need ALL of these componets to helmet mount. See article at link-

The Noisefighters AX14-PRO™ is a featherweight night vision monocular mounting arm for the PVS-14 and similar devices, produced with cutting edge manufacturing and material technologies. The AX14-PRO weighs only 0.9 oz / 26 g total, or approximately 52% less than a milspec J-Arm, yet it is significantly more rigid due to the unique design. Just attach a monocular, snap the complete assembly into an industry-standard dovetail helmet mount, and enjoy. An intuitive, friction-based mechanism allows users to swing the PVS-14 monocular in front of either the left or right eye and perfectly adjust for interpupillary distance.

The AX14-PRO is the successor to our original X14-Arm and includes a new, desirable feature: a knuckle is integrated into the arm which allows the entire monocular to both swing away from the eye temporarily and, when not in use, tightly stow against the helmet, significantly lessening the chance for damage during movement under doorways or out of vehicles. This knuckle is supplemented with metal washers for smooth and consistent movements. To be clear, the articulating knuckle permits full range of motion and tight stowing on both the left and right side.

IMG_0808_1_-2740506.jpg

The mechanism is pretensioned at the factory and should never need to be adjusted, but a simple hex key wrench may be used for adjustment as necessary.

A slight rearward sweep of the inner arm helps position the monocular eyepiece closer to one's eye and provides greater compatibility for those with larger helmets.

Multiple anti-rotation features prevent the monocular from rotating and loosening with vibrations.

The choice of a high performance polymer from Arkema® produces a nearly indestructible monocular mount. The highly impact-resistant material chosen for the AX14-PRO should absorb shocks and bounce back into shape instead of fracturing when dropped, bent, or otherwise stressed.

All hardware is made of genuine, passivated 316 stainless steel and mil spec anodized aluminum for the ultimate in salt water corrosion resistance. The AX14-PRO is truly maritime rated.

A tether (or dummy cord) attachment point is featured on the rear of the AX14-PRO to keep the entire system secure.

A no-questions-asked, transferable lifetime warranty is included. The Noisefighters AX14-PRO is proudly made and assembled in the U.S.A. and was designed by a Marine Corps combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Considerations to account for when using this product:

This arm is NOT COMPATIBLE with bayonet-style night vision helmet mounts. You MUST HAVE a dovetail-type night vision helmet mount.

No auto-shutoff system is integrated. Users must manually turn off the monocular when articulating or flipping up and stowing equipment on top of the helmet.

Multicam Soft case for NODs-[/size=4]

Multicam padded soft case for NV

We secured only about 100 of these Brand New Multicam soft cases for protection of your Night Vision device in the field.

I've been very impressed with this case! Has MOLLE attachments on rear so if you want to attach this to a pack or other gear it will hold securely. The entire case is padded to protect your NODs. Fastex buckle and zip top for redundancy on keeping your gear safe.

IMG_2188_1_-2740507.jpg

Open the case to find a ton of room for NODs and accessories. A small velcro sewn in bag attached to the top flap holds small items like batteries, sacrificial filters, LIFs, etc. A pocket in the rear can be used to hold manuals, data sheets, etc. A heavy duty elastic bag is there in the rear also to help secure items. A heavy padded false bottom (that I'm holding up in pic) can be used to adjust the size of the pouch or to divide contents with an additional padded divider in bottom.

Plenty of room for 1 or even 2 PVS14s, or a dual tube set and a PVS14, or a PVS14 and a soft harness like a Nightcap. If your that last guy on Earth still using an old "skull crusher" (military head mount) note that the skull crusher will NOT fit in this (too long).

Intro New Member From Detroit-area

Hello! I am new to this site and am from the 'burbs northwest of Detroit. This area has a couple of outdoor public ranges within a 30 minute drive. The longest range is only 200yds. The gun retailers have a few indoor ranges--but I prefer outdoors. So there's opportunities to shoot different firearms. My grandfather and father introduced me to firearms very early--but I am by no means an expert in any! I enjoy target shooting handgun and long guns. I enjoy shooting clays, too and am working on my accuracy. I gave up hunting many years ago. About two years ago, I was introduced to precision shooting .22LR & did two range competitions at 50yds. I need to work up to 100 yds next. Wanting to try something different, I just purchased a Browning in 6.5 PRC and will try my hand at that after I get my scope rings in and the scope mounted. My gear is more "budget" oriented--I don't have any of the "good stuff" I read about in the threads--but I still have a good time. You won't see many posts from me as I'm new and more of a reader to learn from others. Thanks for letting me join the group!

US Optics Foundation 25 Turret and Zero Question

This Optic has the EREK turrets, which I understand to have a system that moves the entire internal assembly to give you the entire elevation range over your zero. I will be placing this on a 338 Lapua Magnum that I zero at 800yards. Does anyone with this scope know if I set the zero on this scope to 800 using the EREK system will that give me the 22 Mils over my 800 yard zero?

Nearly free Tikka T1x oversized bolt knobs

20230922_134702.jpg
I designed and built an oversized bolt knob for my T1x and have 10 extras. All I'm asking is for you to cover actual shipping costs. I'll drop it in a small bubble mailer and ship via USPS. The first 10 people to PM me their address will get one - then I'll ship it and PM you what the shipping cost was and my Paypal info.

To install: Unscrew your bolt handle with a 3mm hex key, put a couple drops of oil on the knob, slide the oversized knob over the handle and then use some muscle and your workbench to pop it on. Once it's on, it's on, so proceed with caution :p then simply reattach your bolt handle

BCGs “Optimized” for Suppressors

I am in the market for a new 5.56 and .308 BCG. I will use the rifles with a suppressor 99% of the time. The rifles are an SBR 5.56 and 16” .308.

Is there anything to these suppressor optimized / enhanced BCGs?

I see the LMT, LWRC, CMC and Lantac specifically call out design enhancements that help with gas expulsion.

Anyone have experience with these? I will part with the money if the LMT is worth it but I didn’t know if anyone likes the other options out there.
