I know this is a 1000+ yd sub, but I live in Philly and the only way I’ve been able to get out to even 300yds is to drive to the PGC range near Jim Thorpe.

I’ve been thinking about signing up for a Bangsteel class this coming summer, but that’s an 8+hr drive.

What options are available in PA for >300yds?

Mifflin County Sportsmens association. 1035 yards or so, 3 hours from Philly. Fill out application and you'll havre your card in a couple weeks.

University Rifle Club near Reading out to 300

Atglen Sportsmens in Chester county has matches open to the public out to 550 yards

Thunder Valley Precision in Kimbolton, Ohio goes out to a mile

Dan,
Thank you! I think I'm going to try to join Reade range near State College. Waiting on my NRA membership #.... I let that lapse a few years ago because I'm a horrible person :).

If you haven’t been to Reade, I’d suggest you check it out first before joining.

Not sure what style of shooting you do, but Mifflin is a bit closer and has more to offer IMO.

I shoot at New Holland near Lancaster and the range goes out to 700yds.

On match mornings, I can be there in about 1:20, from Philly.

New Holland is excellent, and more difficult to become a member. Sign up for Mason Dixon PRS on Facebook if you want to shoot PRS matches at New Holland and a couple other spots.

Black bear shooting club in Gladstone VA goes out to 2100 and is the closest ELR range to you. Would be about an hour longer drive then Reade though.

Alex,

What distances does Black Bear have club steel set up at?
Are there covered benches or is it all prone? How close to the shooting benches is parking?
I've seen some pics from the ELR matches there, but was curious about the range setup.

Thanks again,
Scott

So the ranges are set up along a ring road at the top of a mountain and shoot mostly downward. There are benches at most of the firing points as well as areas to shoot prone from. Some are covered but not all. Parking is essentially right next to the firing point for practice. During matches parking is further away but you can drive by and drop your gear. Ranges go from 100 yard sight in to 2100 with a good variety of targets in between. I think the only real gap is 200 to 500.

Thanks for the replies here! I'm sending a check off to Mifflin County Sportsmens Association today.

How crowded is it on the weekends? I'm starting a new job and won't be able to take off mid-week for a while.
I took a precision course there with GHOST (which was amazing BTW)

So he rented out the whole place for that weekend for us to shoot.

In 2 years of having a membership I literally went out once, midweek and it was busy. I would imagine weekends are probably the same. Check their calendar before you make the drive to make sure there are no events that weekend. They also have a facebook page for updates

I've been there on a few Sundays over the past few years, so not a huge sample, but it wasn't super busy. There are plenty of benches at the 1000 yard and 500 yard lines. If you need to setup targets, or paint targets, just ask everyone to go cold to go down range to do what you need to do. Shooting doesn't start until 1pm on Sunday. Always check the schedule before driving out there.

I have been a member at Mifflin for 6-7 years. I went once on a weekend and that was the last time for that. During the week it is most often pretty slow, never once had to wait on a bench. Several times I spent the whole day there without seeing a single other person. I like the club and its pretty laid back atmosphere.
